TV Series

Just finished "The Boys" on amazon prime. Two seasons. Superheroes gone bad. Decent show, very graphic with the violence. Pretty funny though, even if Karl Urban is a bit ropey with the English accents. He basically spends the entire time calling everyone a "[Poor language removed]". First season definitely better, loses a bit of its direction by the second season.

Not a TV show, but a one off....don't quite know how to describe it. You might have seen him doing stand up, usually heavily musical. Very clever and funny stuff, if not necessarily laugh out loud funny. Clearly a very talented performer. This outing however is quite different, completely filmed and recorded in one room, during the pandemic. Its a masterpiece of work, how he managed to put together the entire package on his own is amazing, from the music to the lyrics and the lighting contrasts of mood etc. Its funny, creepy, mesmerising and hits the nail on the head with the problems of society today (self absorbed insta users, the obsession with wanting to be loved/liked/subsribed and the internet in general. Its not for everyone, but a unique show.

I am very excited for this. The Wheel Of Time on Amazon Prime. It is the longest book series ever I think, I finished it in a marathon this year when bored in lockdowns. A bit like GOT meets LOTR.

The beginning of the story is very Lord of the Rings, party gets together and has to go on a quest, good guys and all-powerful Sauron-like bad guy with army of monsters wanting to destroy the world but it evolves into much more than that premise after the first book. What sets it apart is the world building and the varying cultures, as well as having a very strong cast of female characters being arguably more important to the story than the generic hero. You've got your monsters, your magic, your prophecies, your court politics, all sorts of the typical Fantasy stuff if that is your thing.

Is it just me that thinks the SFX look a bit cheap here?

Also, longest book series is 14 books? Try this one I'm on: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Horus_Heresy
