TV Series

House of Dragon down the pan for me, big build up now into series 3, introducing more characters that just don't cut the mustard, and more secret meetings between the 2 Queens of Houses. It all just feels very forced now

I reckon season 3 has to pay off or else the whole thing is down the pan. No one will bother with spin offs.

Not to mention this 2 years wait between seasons really sucks and kills a lot of interest.
Gonna take 8-9 years for relatively simple 4 seasons (only consisting of 8 episodes per season).

Entire season was a filler anyway, so basically 4 years wait between season 1 (that was mostly set up for things to come) and season 3 for finally things to start happening.

it was gash, i'd cancel season 3 before it gets started to be made.

Yeah the entire season 2 could have been done in 1 episode, very little happened and the finale just wasn't even a finale at all. Whole series was just waiting for the war to start which should have actually happened in Season 2 Episode 1. Gonna get cancelled unless they get their act together and stop dragging things out. Game of Thrones had Finales in nearly every episode which is why it was so popular, well apart from the final series where they completely lost the plot.

Beside other obvious things (great dialogue, interesting characters, pace) one of the great strengths of Game of Thrones was variety. You had politicking of King Landing with Cersei and company, you had kinda horror adventure in the North, stuff going on with Dany on another continent, adventure with Arya etc.....so several genres all mixed through single episodes.

In HOTD its just dark corridors and tables with circular conversations that are going nowhere, plus repetive stuff every episode like Corlys talking with his son at the docks, just copy-paste stuff.

I watched what was possibly the worst Comedy series I've ever seen other night. The new ITV show "Piglets" based on new police recruits. Excruciatingly bad
Not been a decent comedy series for yonks.

If your looking through ITVX though, i'm on the 4th season of 'Everybody Hates Chris' which is massivelly under rated.......very much a Malcolm in The Middle vibe

Side Note: They are in the middle of producing a cartoon version with Chris Rock returning as the narrator & Terry Crews & Tichina Arnold returning as Chris' parents.

I'm glad to see House of the dragon being panned. GRRM deserves it all for selling out.

The series is an adaptation of a fictional history hardly even detailed with its own book.

GoT was much better because it had five books to adapt. They're stretching out parts of one into three seasons but having to balance their budget use on the CGI for what is essentially a paper thin story to explain why all the dragons are gone in GOT.

I watched a review of the season the other day and the fella doing it said they’ve said it’s going to be 4 seasons. I haven’t checked that this is right but the fella went on to say it should have only been 2 seasons and they’ve dragged it out to 4 for the money. He reckons there are certain fan groups that redo entire shows and cut things down. This fella reckons it will happen with this and the version they will end up making will be more like what it should have been without a corporate machine behind it dragging it out for profit.

The whole Daemon in Harrenhall thing is a prime example of it. He’s been there literally the entire season to do something that could have taken 2 episodes.

You nailed it perfectly with GOT, there were so many story lines and characters that there was always something big to happen somewhere in the universe. When it’s following 2 factions there’s not so much for them to cover

So I'm racing through episodes of this. I never caught the original book or 80s miniseries so I've gone in cold. It's a "fish out of water" historical epic with intrigue, culture clashes and superb costume and production design.
The cast are superb... very nuanced performances. Also the writing is on point and storyline touches on the gradual infiltration of 16th century Japanese culture and society by the comparatively decadent, uncouth yet technologically advanced Gaijin. It thankfully doesn't overplay the "white saviour" trope that often sullies these kinds of shows...the English Blackthorne character is played as ignorant, naive and completely lost in this strange complex foreign land. His gradual assimilation into his surroundings and the tense political situation he finds himself thrown into is smartly done.
Lots of brutal samurai violence, serene Kurosawa moments of contemplation and beautiful alluring intelligent females who wield as much influence and power as their stoic men.
Highly recommended. Oh and Mariko is a darling.

Have a look at Tokyo Vice on iPlayer if you’ve not watched it.
Not a period piece but very good nonetheless.

Santa Clarita diet is possibly the last decent comedy that`s been on for a while.

Although the subject matter could put people off !
