US Army and Apple - say it ain't so?

I have, it's called a FragBook DRX made by Falcon Northwest and it uses hardware (Core i7) that's not even available on a MacBook Pro. So much for your statement below extolling the virtues of Macs and their non-use of old technology...their top-of-the-line offerings are already a generation behind what's now available on PC laptops. Would you pay more for it if it were available on a Mac? Probably not, but that has nothing to do with Apple and everything to do with the price premium which exists on truly new hardware, not what Apple would have you think is new.

Then there's cr*p like "Oh, but the chassis is carved out of a single block of aluminum!" [Poor language removed] off!! Do you know how energy-intensive the aluminum smelting process is? Not that I give a sh*t, to be honest, but still...environmentally friendly Apple my knob. It took constant sl*gging from the nutjob environmentalists to even get Apple to make an attempt.

Ugh...more Mac evangelical nonsense. You're getting a server in a box, something I could build right now with an AMD Opteron if I could be arsed to spend $1k on the proc, nevermind $2.5k for the lowest-priced Intel 6-core. Good luck getting that for less than $4k kitted out from Apple,though...insanity. Unless you're rendering Maya and stuff like that it's complete overkill and I could still get the same performance for cheaper on a PC because Apple's one saving grace used to be the PowerPC because it was a RISC-based proc. You're screwed now though with Intel. And sorry to take a dump in your Weetabix but 8-cores are pretty much right around the corner. Wanna' take a bet on which platform has them first?

Jobs really is a marketing genius, and I mean that sincerely, because Mac users actually used to pay for better hardware, which was strictly the proc mind you, but now all you pay for is looks and nothing more. Mac users are the Hummer H2/3 buyers of the PC industry now. It's one thing to look really "pimp" rolling down the M1 and another to get humiliated as you're being pulled out of some mud in the Lake District by a 1984 Land Rover 90 that's half your size.

Nope, they're a middleware company...always have been because it offers the biggest potential profit margin depending on how good you are at fleecing the customer, which Apple is a master at. They don't have a low or high end if you compare them to what's truly on offer from everyone out there. You may take all this as me sl*gging off Macintosh...far from it. I'm sl*gging off their completely farcical hype machine that you've apparently bitten in to...hard. All Jobs has done is taken the old adage that it's 10% what you say and 90% how you look and applied it to the PC. It's the guys bread and butter.

Ah goodness where do I start!

You make a few valid points, Apple do have longer product cycles which I will be the first to admit is extremely annoying. But seriously you can't be calling the Falcon an example of a usable every day laptop?? It's a brick with a 1 hour battery life and a desktop processor! Crazy!

Your next point about the use of Xeons in a tower is a tad contradictory, on one hand you're saying the Falcon is a better laptop because it has a more powerful processor on the next you're saying a more powerful desktop is redundant because it has err too much power?? Not getting the logic on that one

I do agree with you, jobs is a marketing genius :)

And you can't say they're strictly a middleware company when you've previously said that the Xeons are only goo for high end work, Mya etc

Someones had too much Redbul (y)

Anyway, just accept they're sexier :D After all it's the main reason we poke fun at fuggly PC's. The rest is just opinion and we'll be arguing around in circles for years

Oh dear. Do you know sometimes when you speak and you realise what a clown I sound. Well my friend that was one of those moments.

Especially when Microsoft prides themselves on the greatest word processor on earth - Word. It's almost their flagship product.

So how about you jog on. eh?
To be fair I couldn't really give a [Poor language removed] about Word either way. I use a PC because the whole point of a computer is to, you know, play games. Simple as.

Compare the iPhone 3gprs to the HTC Hero, its at best marginally better but more than double the price.

Which is why I own a Hero ;)
