And why would he need to calculate the circumference at whatever latitude he was ?If he is sailing a boat he is not likely to need that surely given there are very few latitudes that one can circumnavigate the world whilst sailing all the way .

1 degree of longitude at a particular latitude describes a distance (nautical miles) different to 1 degree longitude at a different latitude.
Apprised of this, I am confident that you can envision sailing situations where knowing different circumferences of a globe might come in handy.

Apropos of the 360 degrees issue: the circumference of the earth at different latitudes is calculated by finding the cosine of the latitudinal degree and multiplying that by the circumference at the equator.
Pretty sure the skipper on Usmanov’s yacht would be familiar with this...

Having given more thought to your post ,it seems that you wanted to show your knowledge of sailing and plotting but I felt it was a bit out of place as no one can easily navigate at a given latitude no matter whether he knows( or in fact his captain ) so I felt it was a bit let's say naff to try to baffle someone with science when we all know it works better on RS supporters (unless you talk about aurora borealis ,when they will wrap you up with their sightings ) and even the dumbest football supporter must realise that the distance in each degree of logitude is different from the next when the earth is an oblate spheroid .

He was a good guy imo, no idea whether he was ever clued up in terms of Everton but he was a regular poster on the ale house forum and made plenty of good posts and was quite popular. Then he predicted some Everton stuff which he got very wrong and basically got hounded off the forum... he never even kicked up a fuss about it and was always polite in the face of abuse.

Remember he came on here and informed us all he was going on talksport ?
and had quite a discussion with Ian Wright,about our chances of getting back with the elite, came across has a good blue, and I think he joined the Red Echo later, and now he seems to go out of his way to be controversial on all things Everton.
