Agree with you and @TheBigIguana. Sterile possession is sterile, and leaves a team vulnerable.

I don't have the answer to the question of who we would replace Berhalter with. If I had it, I'd have told you. The ghost of Bruce Arena would do it, but I think we can do better. We need to get to this World Cup to set up for a run in 2026. Cut, dried.

@carolinablue232 I think he's decided that a draw away at Honduras is a good result. In a vacuum, I would agree. In context, I don't. Draw away to El Salvador is no bueno. Draw home to Canada is no bueno. We need to recoup those points somewhere. This is an octagonal, not a hex. This is probably our best spot to heist three points away that we have no business heisting.

3 points out of 3 games would be a massive disappointment especially given we’ve not played Mexico. Setting out hoping for a draw against Honduras is weak. It’s a tough place to go and win, but this just seems so submissive against a very limited side.

I don't think they're that bad. I think they're a legit threat to get through. It's them, Canada, Panama and us for the spots behind Mexico, as things stand.

I just don't like playing for fourth when we have a 1/3 shot at drawing a CONMEBOL team that will paste us. I think we're good against the AFC and Oceania teams. Fifth place CONMEBOL will likely wreck us. We need to spin the wheel today. Worst case scenario, we leak a point. This has all the hallmarks of a coach trying to save his job for a bit at the expense of the club or national team.

I'll be direct: Berhalter today is a college football coach punting on fourth and three at his own 40 rather than going for it, the way Les Miles would. Les Miles was not a great coach. He outperformed by being brave in the right situations.

They’re not awful, but they’re very limited, and even more so without Elis. Without him, there’s no one out there we should be overly concerned about. I like your analogy but I’d equate it more to punting in 4th and 1 at the opponent’s 45 in a tied game.

Maybe I’m wrong and will be surprised. Wouldnt be the first time. We’ll see.

/concur. Berhalter may be smarter than we think, on the data series. He has tendencies, but he may be learning. We may be judging him too harshly on past performance, and ignoring the possibility of learning.

If you'll excuse me, I need to post in the tennis thread. Djokovic has been leaking a lot of first sets. That is interesting.
