USMNT

The Guardian's podcast is pretty good IMHO. The Totally Football Show podcast is good too.

@wm02 I just saw that Quieroz is back at Iran. Going to be a very interesting group I think. Lots of tight games.

I haven't sat down to watch today's game even though I won't put much stock in it.

Honestly I'm down on the team atm. Between injuries, form, the playing time, the weird window it is happening in (which everyone has to deal with but a younger team could potentially have a tougher time adapting, on the flip side I recognize youth could help recovery).

I don't think they're gonna get out of the group imo. I could see 3 draws or even 1 loss to England and drawing the next 2 games. It will definitely be competitive among the 3 sides for the last spot assuming England shows up.

And why is pulisic coming out with a book? I get it he's getting paid, but who's buying this?

When has the guy ever opened his mouth and you thought I wanna hear more of this? I'm not calling him dumb but he just seems like the stereotypical professional athlete, who 90% are boring af.

Not sure you have more talent than Wales. I would say it's quite close run there. You have more talent than Iran. But as mentioned Queiroz's Iran have caused better teams than England, Wales and USA some problems in the past. If he can get them playing like they did in the previous 2 world cups then they might sneak through. I should also say that although favourites, I don't think England are by any means guaranteed to get through either. It will be very tight and difficult to call. But if I had a gun to my head I'd probably go with England and Wales to get through.
You really think Wales have talent on par with USA? Please tell me you're joking.

Yes. and then some to spare.
The Welsh squad is predominantly made up of players from the Championship and League 1, with a washed up Bale and Ramsey playing at retirement clubs. USMNT is made of players playing top flight football in the top 5 leagues of Europe and from clubs such as Chelsea, Juventus, Leeds, Dortmund, Milan etc. There's actually no debate here in all honesty. The USMNT should be competing with the likes of Argentina, France, Brazil etc with these players the American academies have produced in recent years.

"playing" is a strong word for what most of them do at those clubs, isn't it? They're also stocked with a load of dross who play in MLS, which is about league 1 standard and (checks notes) Luton Town.

Bro we just lost 4-0 to Minnesota United this summer and you're out here saying MLS is league 1 standard? GTFO with your BS.

I think USA has a lot of talent, but mostly very young and a little bit unproven. I’m basically agreeing with the point made by @Martin Alvito that they’re on course to be a force in 2026.

Wales also has a good level of talent that has performed well at premier league level, played in the latter stages of European competitions and international tournaments. Even though the 2 best ones are past their best now.

You can argue that one has more talent than the other but it’s very tight between the two. In fact the whole group is very tight. Only 17 places separating all 4 teams in the fifa rankings

It’s all completely open imo. Any 2 of the 4 could go through and it wouldn’t really surprise me.

Interestingly Iran beat Uruguay yesterday.
