What an utter train wreck

The Reynas make me feel bad for GGG.

Says it all sadly
At the same time Berhalter putting it into public means he really can't come back either.

I don't really know what you do about Reyna. He's clearly one of the best 10 or so players we have and we're way worse off not involving him at the current moment. I also don't really know how you can involve him without it being extremely clear that something even 1/20th as bad as this can't happen again. 2026 off to a nightmarish start.

Happy to see miles Robinson playing again. We look ridiculously sloppy/unprepared tonight. It’s El Salvador so we’ll win but it’s been bad so far. Poor touches and passes all over the shop.

Interested to hear what people think about Wynalda's Op-Ed:

It has been trendy for years now to criticize pay to play.

I view it as a necessary step from where we were 25 years ago with essentially nothing other than ayso to where we want to be.

Do we honestly think that the infrastructure in all those European counties sprang up over night?

By infrastructure, I mean organizations and staff, coaches, etc., not to mention growing a culture that even cares about the sport.

I speak as the father of 3 children that have endured terrible coaches from the standpoint of knowledge of the game and technique, but the kids know enough about the game to be able to intelligently watch it and will pass it on to their kids. Multiply by millions, iteratively.

I agree however that the deemphasis on the high school game is less than ideal for me, though. It has a lot of shortcomings (dual referees!) But the points in its favour outweigh that.

The problem the traditional US system has, so high school and college, is we play multiple sports growing up. Competing with other countries that are football year round is hard when you spend a few months playing basketball and a few months playing baseball or whatever too. And then in college the season is only a semester and you just practice a little in the spring.

Unfortunately if Americans are going to make it at the top level they have to find year round high level play even at younger ages. That stinks because the system for doing that absolutely SUCKS. But I think it is necessary with this sport.

I kinda disagree with the premise that we're a laughing stock or there is some major issue we need to solve. Are problems are mostly just time related. We're a country that basically started trying in soccer in 1989. That's 100 years after most of Europe. We didn't have a real league until the 90s. Also decades behind many nations. We're honestly doing just fine. Not saying we don't have to improve still but I just don't think we have to get all dramatic about it.
