USMNT

Goal.com really seems to have it out for American players on Leeds:

To be fair, they both were pretty awful. Aaronson quite literally is a player who in his time as a professional has shown that he runs a lot and that's about it. He really doesn't create chances, challenge the keeper, or get past defenders. I was kind of shocked when Leeds spent good money to get him, given that he's never been a goal scorer and never a big assist man, either.

McKennie seems like he's taken a big step back from where he used to be. I remember him being a high energy guy who'd get up and down the pitch using his strength to win and advance the ball; whenever I saw him at Leeds he just seemed like he was going at about 60% all the time.

McKennie is just a player you can't use in a two man midfield. Not to mention the Italy to England midfield transition is never easy.

Buying McKennie was straight out of the everton transfer policy playbook. He wasn't really needed but they had a bit of money to spend and found the 1st guy who wants to get paid always wanted to play for Leeds.

If anything they might be able to recoup most of the wasted money on McKennie/Aaronson by selling Adams.

I think Weston has had conditioning questions his whole career. IDK he is a confounding player. I kind of sum it up as I think he is a player with a fairly high base level of quality but doesn't really have aspirations beyond that. Thats not a judgement on him personally. He can have other focuses, its maybe not a bad thing to not be psycho competitive in his regular life. But he doesnt really seem to have the attention and rigor to be a top end player week in week out.

Considering questions in relation to position depth in the midfield I think he will continue to be a first team player, but I find him the least impactful of MMA and wouldn't be entirely shocked if he was usurped over this WC cycle.

He reminds me somewhat of Conor Gallagher in that I just don't think he does enough in the middle third to play in any system that isn't a 3 man midfield, nor does he do enough in attack to be a true #10, nor is he disciplined enough to be a true holding player. There's one role in one style of midfield for him and he's quite useful in that spot as he was for the US when we played the 4-3-3 at the WC. Otherwise I just don't think it'll work. Nicolo Barella is another player who is like this. When used right they can be very successful guys to have. Leeds didn't get it right.

I mean they didn't buy him but he's never been that good - he's athletic and has decent technique but never stood out as anything to me. Was so weird when Juventus bought him after the already weird loan lol

He’s odd. Rated Adams ahead of him but then McKennie probably became our best player for about 18 months. Then he seemed to regress/become less interested. His next move is going to be critical for his career, and honestly I think it’s all just down to him and how much he wants to push himself.
