Got 4 years to look to the future though. World Cup time you should be picking your best available in my opinion.

I guess the real question is is Landon one of the best available anymore, or has time finally caught up with him?

He has had a pretty long scoring drought for club. He's been tied for all-time leading MLS scorer for a looooooooooooong time.

To my fans,

It has been an honor and privilege to have represented the US National Team in three World Cups. I was looking forward to playing in Brazil and, as you can imagine, I am very disappointed with today’s decision. Regardless, I will be cheering on my friends and teammates this summer, and I remain committed to helping grow soccer in the US in the years to come.

Thanks for all your support,

Landon

I want to see your sparkly eagle @Garrick again but if you get it out too much it might lose it's power

He was fat and out of shape against Mexico, I haven't had a chance to see him play for the Galaxy, but you can't tell me that Julian Green will have a bigger impact (or an impact at all) than Donovan would have.

Leaving Goodson off the roster is a mistake as well.

His selection or my thoughts on the selection?

Well both. Not necessarily your thoughts as I think that's what happened, you're correct, but no country should ever take a WC berth for granted and not taking your best squad (which is what he has done, there's no doubt) is simply unfathomable.

I kinda sorted it out after I read your next post.

Honestly, England is the other national team I follow pretty closely, they are my 'second team'...I wish they'd have done the same thing before the last WC or at the very least for Euro 2012. Play the kids Woy!

I don't disagree with you that it's a massive risk in the short term...but the experience these guys get will go a long way in the future...or at least that's what Jurgen's betting on...

Aye.

Green for Donovan. Hell, Green for EJ in the theoretical world where he made the preliminary would be good too.

And Brooks for Goodson. Brooks has NEVER impressed me. The cynical side of me says that Brooks was picked just because he's an average player for a European club... Meanwhile, Goodson is a good player for an MLS club.

Agree 100% with all of this. NEVER been impressed with Brooks either. I don't get it. I don't get it. I don't get it.

Green will be getting a nice vacation in Brazil, I doubt he will be getting much experience. That's especially true for Brooks.

It is obvious Landon showed up out of shape. He did not have his heart entirely in it. For a player that has a history of getting burnt out, it was foreshadowing that he gave interviews about how he isn't the same player and he isn't a lock to make the team. I think he knew he wouldn't start and didn't want to come off the bench.
I'm disappointed because I think our best back line is
Johnson - beisler - Cameron - chandler

This almost guarantees Johnson at left wing. And Donovan is a perfect 70th minute sub, but I bid Donovan farewell. Best usa player ever
