The cuts: Brad Evans, Clarence Goodson, Michael Parkhurst, Joe Corona, Maurice Edu, Terrence Boyd, and LANDON DONOVAN.

You got some balls of steel, Jürgen.
How confident you feeling about our little bet now then?

Is it possible to be both shocked and unsurprised at the same time? Because that's how I feel. I've been reading how Donovan's been playing to make the team like everyone else, so I'm not surprised, but......it's Donovan, so I'm shocked. It's either genius or mad. Here's hoping for the genius lean.

Klinsmann will either come home a hero or his head will be put on a pole. He's gambling huge with Green, Yedlin, and Brooks.

Altidore is a donkey. Scored once for Sunderland all season, and no USA goals since October. But he's in the 23.

With the amount of hate he's getting from both sides of the Pond, absolutely nailed on to score more goals in one game than he did all season for Sunderland.

To me the selection of this team shows that Jurgen is looking to the future, and not the present.

Got 4 years to look to the future though. World Cup time you should be picking your best available in my opinion.

I guess the real question is is Landon one of the best available anymore, or has time finally caught up with him?

I honestly can not answer this, I haven't seen him play in a while. For me, the selection looks like a clear look to the future. Maybe I'm wrong.

Me neither.

If Jurgen is looking to the future, then he must have a lot of confidence in his employers and staying on for another 4 years, a poor showing would get most managers fired.

Just got in from golf if I'm honest, so my first knowledge of this was from our lovely GOT. Just read this article...kind of speaks to my thinking...this is his second point:

"2. Did job security convince Klinsmann to go young?

It seems likely that this was the case. Looking at the roster, one almost gets the impression that Klinsmann is building his team for 2018 rather than 2014. In addition to Julian Green, there is John Brooks (three caps) and Yedlin (two caps). Granted, none of these three players figure to play prominent roles in Brazil. But what if circumstances force Klinsmann to go that route? For this tournament, the U.S. manager might have been better served by going with more experience heads like Donovan, Clarence Goodson, and Michael Parkhurst. The World Cup is not a tournament at which to be throwing inexperienced players into the deep end.

Yet the contract extension Klinsmann signed in December gave him the wiggle room to think more long term, almost as if this World Cup is a throwaway and that 2018 is the one that really matters. World Cup opportunities are rare, and should be treated as such. At this point, it's tough to see how this current roster constitutes the best 23 players today.

Granted, this is not the first time Klinsmann has taken such a route as a national team manager. When he was in charge of Germany in 2006, Klinsmann also went with a young squad that included David Odonkor, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Lukas Podolski, all of whom were 22 or younger. But except for Odonkor's lone cap, the other three also had more than 18 caps each, a level that Brooks, Yedlin, and Green haven't begun to approach."
