Agreed , I love talking about collina and how we were cheated out of CL. Would much rather talk about that than talking about a CL run.

Oh come on. We were not cheated out of a CL run. So long as we have this victim mentality it will not matter what systems are put in place (VAR or anything else), when something goes against us it's always going to be a case of "They hates us because we're Everton... "

State of that at the pit.

Fulham 1-0 up. Instead it is the other way round. Top 6 bias again.

Was their top 6 bias in Watford vs Southampton yesterday as well? Honestly you give the premier league and officials too much credit when you suggest there’s some inherent bias/ conspiracy in favour of some teams. The officials simply aren’t very good and need help.

They literally changed the rules twice that year to keep us out

Absolutely totally for it.
We should also adopt the American Football model. If there is a perceived injustice , each coach / manager has a red flag that they can throw onto the pitch to object to a wrong decision.
You get one per half, and if you are wrong, you lose it.
Our lovely neighbours would be mid table at best.

Not if they have more flags than everyone else...

We were cheated mate. Not because we are Everton, but because UEFA didnt want 5 English teams in the CL. They never thought the top four dominance would be broken and Everton finishing 4th and the RS winning the CL put a spanner in the works. Thats my opinion anyway.

I fully understand what you're saying and respect your opinion, I just have a hard time believing it to be the case.

Also why would a ref come out of retirement for one game them immediately retire again?

Goalline technology yes, VAR no. It'll hold up the game. This is not rugby or cricket where stoppages are frequent. Football needs to be flowing or people will stop watching.

Football doesn't flow any more though. The main reason for that is because of players diving constantly. Being in VAR and a proper retrospective action system for diving and I believe it will actually make the game flow better. You're not going to keep cheating if the cameras pick it all up and you keep getting banned.

Inadvertantly, players will stay on their feet more for minimal contact fouls in fear of getting punished.

But no, the game is perfect as it is according to those who think "the ball must go backwards from the kick off" is a more important issue to address.

Don't recall that happening to us, but not saying it hasn't. I enjoy the good and bad talking points of a match, and would hate to see the game becoming sterile. Debates about the Ref getting 'that one wrong and this one right' are part of what Football is about for me.

Missing the point. The game is about opinions, you can still have that debate about the ref getting it wrong or right, it's just technology gives them a better charge to get the decision right. So many these days can be determined after one or two replays, which are hard to spot in real time.

I don't agree with people saying teams will just appeal every goal, that's not how it works. If the ref / TV ref thinks there's nothing to look at, they won't signal for VAR.

As I've said before though, the major issue is that the authorities keep changing all the rules (like offside) from something that is a set in stone law, to what is now interpretation.

Just look at the confusion in the Soton game, why couldn't they just keep the offside rule as it was? It was simple to understand. If you're not interfering with play but past the defence, tough luck, you're offside.
