I'm happy for it to be introduced but not for penalties. It's too subjective. I'd only introduce it for offside's. and possibly retrospective red cards, like the tackle on siggy at the weekend.

I just don’t trust it to be implemented correctly, I have wondered about a set number of challenges though like tennis maybe.
Or the 'right' offences properly targeted.

Yes I know there is no such thing as 'Ball to Hand' but some of the calls in the WC were ludicrous...2 players go for ball, the attacker heads it...on to the hand/wrist/forearm of the defender...it travels 18in max. Somebody complains, the Reff checks - yes it did hit his hand - mucho deliberation - Penalty!...technically.

For me VAR is there to tell the Reff that, yes he did see what he thought he saw.

Not to, after the event, via the imput of an aggrieved party...and at any given time 50% of the players on the pitch Will be aggreived...tell the Reff he was - in the old MrEnroe style - SOooo wrong; you can not be serious. etc, etc.

Nor will it make all these poor Reffs better, it will just give them more oportunities to do what they do most of the time now...get it wrong in the big boys favour.

That's my thought as well. 1 challenge a half initiated by the captain. It will also stop every player doing the VAR screen hand gesture every 2 minutes.

Yeah I agree that handball in the wc final from which France got a penalty was just bizarre.

It's not really bizarre though because in every other leauge apart from the prem that's a pen.
Nah, total rubbish...Its only The Prem that lives in this sort of Reffs❤Sky Darling Fantasy Island.

As seen from the Reffs in the WC, some, with all due respect, who come from near 'Bush League' locations...any Reffs from 'der best league in der werld'
NO.

'ball to hand' from 18 ins is only made possible with VAR

VAR, as seen in the WC, will only make these idiots more erratic, not less

Interesting to read the ref's side of things, but the big issue I have with the FA is when there is a mistake it is NEVER acknowledged.

The challenge on Sigurdsson for example, yes it was easy to miss at full speed, but everyone knows that should be a retrospective red, yet all you get from the FA is silence which is basically denial that anything serious happened, even though the player is now injured.

Goalline technology yes, VAR no. It'll hold up the game. This is not rugby or cricket where stoppages are frequent. Football needs to be flowing or people will stop watching.
There are a lot more stoppages in football than Rugby League, what with throw ins, corners, free kicks and every time the goalie catches the ball. Not to mention substitutions, in RL these happen while the game is still going on.

The ball was tw@ed at the defender from like a foot/few feet away if memory serves. Incredibly incredibly harsh if nothing else

It wasn’t, it was a corner delivered in that didn’t touch anyone on the way through, and hit an outstretched arm to stop it entering the 6 yard box. A blatant penalty and only became controversial because of the whole VAR car crash that happened.

Yeah just watched it again, haven’t seen it since the day. At the time I thought that french CB had headed the ball onto Perisic’s hand.

As an American that sees all the perils of overuse of video replay/challenges:

VAR should only be used for:
1) Did the ball go over the line for a goal (we already have this with goal line technology)
2) Offside goals. A goal is scored that VAR proves was offside - think John Terry in the 97th minute
3) Penalties given that are not penalties (VAR would prove guy got ball first, etc)
4) Away from the ball red-card offence type fouls that the ref doesn't see
