Isn't it just the name that they chose for the vaccine now- I've had three Pfizer jabs- the last being cominarty (a stupid mishmash of words like community, mrna, covid) as they thought it sounded better than BioNTec or whatever it was called?
That was my understanding too as BioNTech is the company Pfizer partnered with to create the vaccine and they wanted a specific brand name for the vaccine itself.

Personally I prefer the brand name Moderna has come up with for its vaccine - Spikevax!

@RAFUH is a pharmacist, going to tag her in to confirm what is/isn’t available.

Cominarty is the brand name for the Pfizer-Biontech COVID mRNA vaccine.
Under EUA, drugs/vaccines are not allowed to be marketed so it was not "branded or licensed" ( ie It hadn't been given a legal name...at least not publicly).

We've used the manufacturers name to identify all the COVID vaccines while under EUA. That allowed identification of specific vaccines especially between the different mRNA vaccines. Once it had full FDA approve, the branded/licensed name was used. All vaccines have a brand name. We just don't use those names outside of health facilities. We just say flu shot/jab (there's actually about 10 different ones).

You'll see similar with Moderna and J&J when they get full approval.

On August 23, 2021, the FDA approved the first COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, and will now be marketed as Comirnaty, for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older.

Hadn't heard this. Outstanding drug name. Quite happy I got the Moderna now so I can get a SpikeVax booster!!

Thanks

Hubby had his flu shot today (Fluarix Quadrivalent) and just looking at all its names

Brand names US - Afluria Quadrivalent, Fluad Quadrivalent, Fluad (DSC) Fluarix Quadrivalen, Flucelvax Quadrivalen, Fluaval Quadrivalen, Fluzone…..with lots more Canadian ones!

No one should be forced to have the jab if they don't want to but if there are going to be restrictions in place for fans in stadiums needing them, or any other walks of life, then restrictions on them (not playing etc.) should come in.

I don't agree with what the NBA are doing though.

I looked a bit and don't know if it has been stated, I didn't see it.

But teams having these issues in NY, LA, and San Fransisco is not of the leagues doing. The municipalities have put in these requirements, and their authority rightfully flauts the NBA's.

I assure you that the product that is available is not the fda approved one. It has a different trade name (biontech vs cominarty). It is very clearly set out as legally distinct on the fda approval letter. Read it for yourself. Cominarty item is not available.
I work for one of the big 3 pharmaceutical distributors in the US on precisely this topic. I assure you I know what I am talking about, never mind that the fda letter is freely available.

@LinekersLegs
Reading this again (and being pedantic), your sans Legs counterpart here is technically correct in a legal sense, while being wrong scientifically.

Legally, vials that have a label with ”Pfizer-BioNTech” on it are still under EUA. The FDA full approval was for Cominarty and vials with that label may not yet be off production lines and available for distribution.

That said, it‘s the exact same vaccine in the vials, coming off the same production lines. They are just slapping a different label on the vial now.

As far as I was aware they spun the Covid Vaccine out as a separate company/brand under the new name. Absolutely no change to the product (or else they would hae to seek worldwide approval again) .
Probably just an accounting thing to reflect a different set of investors or something

My personal opinion is that everyone should have the vaccination but no one should be forced. If you decline however if it comes to prioritising who gets a bed then they should be the ones to miss out. They were given an opportunity to reduce its effects and they chose not to take it. I'm against people losing their jobs as it doesn't reduce the chances of it being transmitted. Ultimately the procedures inside care homes should prevent spread as a vaccinated member of staff could just as easily cause an out break.

Should be mandatory in that job. You're traveling, you're constantly interacting with people. It's a billion pound industry and you're getting paid thousands to be fit and ready to work.

If I'd ran a club, I'd be laying it down to say you have to get it. If not and you get covid without the jab, you've not done everything to prevent you from not working...so wages/sick pay to be stopped. Other businesses are doing the same.
