Their top earner is on £45k per week though according to the Shawcross reports. That's over £1.5m per year less than ours for just one player. Their wage bill must be a fair bit lower, hence having funds for transfers. They'll max out soon enough like everyone else does.

Their wage bil during 2010-11 was 47 million or 70% of their income, compared to ours of 58 million which was 71% of our income as we finished higher in 2009-10 than Stoke and so earned money that way. We also spent 3 million on agents to their one and half million.

I imagine now they've added Crouch et al, the two wage bills would be closer but lets say it isn't and we've spent 50 million more on wages in the last five years than Stoke and also seven and a half million more than them on agents. That's an extra 57 and half million. We've still earned 15 million in transfers compared to the 75 million that they have spent. So at the most optimistic look at their finances, in the last five years Stoke have invested 33 million pounds more than we have into their playing staff.
