If there was another striker (possibly someone from the academy etc) who did what Anichebe did last season (score most of the games he came on) we'd all be calling for him to be in the first team and fuming at moyes for not playing him.

Everyone thought Vellios would be amazing because he scored a few goals when he came on...Anichebe did a lot better than that yet somehow when he does it he's utterly gash.

To be honest mate I don't think vellios, straq or any other option aside from jelavic are good enough to be premier league strikers... They are not overly bad but they all have something missing.... Don't ask me what it is as I couldn't tell you but it's something which separates good players from the almost Rans.

I've never had that much confidence in Vic but maybe he's starting to show why Moyes has persevered with him for so long. His general record for us is 13 goals in 39 league starts, 3 in 4 league cup starts and 4 in 3 in other competitions. Last season he bagged 6 in 16 appearances and he demonstrated his goalscoring repertoire, including a poachers goal at the Hawthorns, a header versus Wigan and a cool finish following a well-timed run in the game at Villa park. It seems like he does have the talent if he can get his mind properly focussed to apply himself. He's earned the right to lead the line in Jelavic's absence. Let's see how he handles starting games and being relied on to spearhead our play.

I don't know why everyone is on his back all of the time, he nearly won us the game on Monday night and rescued many games for us last season from the bench, give him a chance ffs, should be behind anyone who wears that royal blue jersey.

Big Vic is going to do the business for us eventually.

I have faith, he is improving again, pity he stopped for a few years after the UEFA cup.

The lad has always had ability, he is a strong goal scoring striker.

I really don't see why people think he's so awful. He scored two goals as a sub, one was disallowed. I agree he's lazy at times, but his finishing recently has been decent. Looking back, he should have played far more than Saha, who couldn't finish tap-ins. Victor has had some not so easy goals in the last year or so.

If Baines can say that defenders can't live with Anichebe when he uses his strength and ability to turn and shoot, like he did on Monday. Then that's good enough for me.

These guys see him every day in training, they can see what he can do. And it seems they are very impressed with him.

I think the lad lacks confidence and belief in himself. Something that's compounded by us lot telling him he's gash all the time. Myself included in that one.

But for me I feel he's maybe making a turn for the better, if Monday is anything to go on. The words of the coaches and the players are finally sinking in to that thick skull. All it needs is us lot to get behind him now and maybe, just maybe, we might have a player there.

Young player of the season Apostolos Vellios last season 15 appearances 3 goals

Victor Anichebe 16 appearances 6 goals.

It was just a popularity contest.

Considering he was gash every year before this one, I can't let go of my reservations just yet. I would hope that Big Vic has finally turned a corner and that he is going to prove Moyes right.
