Probably bad choice of language but it is guaranteed that there is trouble . And something else is that stuff you could not get away with in normal life is ignored in a football situation. Outside pubs insulting women, pretending to be an aeroplane to wind up a mancunian, a game of football crashing around the inside of a motorway service station. It all gets ignored as police are happy to contain as long as damage is minimal and no real violence. England guarantees a level of trouble and behaviour away. I would not take a woman or kid with the away support of England and would not want them in my town.

Its not just England mate. I joked earlier on about Cardiff/Swansea fighting each other. That happens on most of Wales away games, not nice for decent fans. The carnage that happened in Marsaille was disgraceful and I felt embarrased to be English, but a small minority of football fans spoil it for the decent fans. As I said earlier I think the authorities have done good job, but the inept french police and the mindless minority have put us back 20yrs

No, I said the fans out there now are paying the price for a generation of England fans who have behaved disgracefully al over Europe for years. The mindless yobs out there now who are out there now and who set out with the sole intention of emulating past behaviours do deserve everything they get... and it's laughable that they are moaning about it now. Unfortunately, the innocent people from any country involved caught up in all of this are the real victims.

I have no sympathy with the ones who are giving it the big one and thinking all other fans will be frightened to death of us. These fans are living on what others done in the past.
I do have massive sympathy for the ones who are there to just watch and support England

We are talking about a group storming through indiscriminately trying to kick [Poor language removed] out of anyone, some people try to have a go back and get hammered, all the Russians are tooled up. In the end I was glad to see the Russian get knocked out on the steps, even though, it was from behind. Hope some of the old school boys are in Lille.

Conscription is still in place so they'll all have gone through military service as you mention: indoctrinated to fight; physically fit, national pride.

Different scale either way. Bit scary really. Like you say, national pride, re visiting a long ago "battle" with the English hooligans from 20 odd years ago.

That's bordering on state-sponsored and endorsed violence in an attempt to project Russian power and ideology onto the Western Europeans.
