They were poor defensively but they dominated most of their games. In other words, their top 7 record was great and their record against the other 13 clubs was poor. All teams had to do was park the bus and nick one goal on the counter. Teams that went out to play against them struggled because Liverpool pressed effectively. We had several games where we gave up 5-3 goals, and that is probably why their GA is slightly better.

Salah is a good player, but I don't think he gives them anything they didn't already have last season

Van Dijk is a different kettle of fish - arguably the best centre back in the league, doesn't really seem to have a weakness in his game other than the occasional mad foray up the left wing or whatever

He'd be potentially game-changing for them

Only glad they decided to keep faith with Mignolet

Really, based on what? It can only really be the season before last when he had Wanyama in front of him and played in a 3? Southampton wasn't solid last season before he went out plus, no one even knows how he'll recover from his injury?
