Think you're all being a bit unfair to Zat here. Keane and VVD (not that it's ever going to happen) would be a fantastic centre back pairing that would compliment each other very well. As an Evertonian I'd be as happy with that pairing as any of the above named, as good as they may be.

Seem to tick all the boxes for me. To be honest, looking at lists such as @Westend Blue it shows that there are a lot of good pairings out there. But it's not like the 90s where we saw some immense Italian pairings amongst others.

This I will agree with.

But Zat didnt claim it would be a very good pairing which would bring happiness to Everton fans.

He said it would be the best CB pairing in Europe.

I said 'potentially' and 'one of the' didn't I?

It's a great potential one after that list it makes me notice elite sides have good cb pairings. Even going back to the Jags Lescott hey days.

You had the likes of Rio and vidic, Terry and carvhalo, Puyol and Pique, the inter pairing for Jose and that's just going on memory

kenny keane gibson chilwell

Ok, so for me if Kenny can get into our team and later win England caps I will be very happy. Chilwell I think will get some caps but the one to watch seems to be Sessegnon at Fulham.

On the centre back pairings, I confessed a few times that I don't watch much English football compared to other leagues @Connor @MorgsGoat and have actually even asked about Keane himself a lot before (hardly seen him play).

Same with Mawson and Gibson. However, from what I have seen and read, 'on paper' keane seems to be the best of the bunch (impressed me In internationals and against us apart from Lukaku turning him lol he was 'ace').

I'd need to know more about Gibson and mawson though....but I LOVE having English internationals...

If we want to be known as a big club and go after global markets, a lot of Asians watch England internationals. Having half a team in the u20s was huge news all over Asia.

If we did that for England it would be epic and we would grow globally as a 'name'.

Only if the senior team performed but the future does look bright for Everton's English talent

Basic thoughts in my mind;

25-30mil on a keeper + 25-30mil on a centre back. Huge outlay for us and although Williams was only signed last summer he is a 'weak link' (on paper).

Keane is big, strong, fast and can head and tackle...pretty much the ideal centre back for playing a high line. Williams doesn't have the pace, To truly dominate teams in the premier league I feel you need to play a high line. Also the further the ball is from the goal then the less risk.

Pickford isn't the tallest (same as Nev) but in any case we need to protect our keeper. In our league there is power and pace and a lot of direct play. Williams would be fine against power, Holgate against pace but neither suits the other attacking type. We have great options but no first choice next to Keane I think.

With Schneiderlin, Gana and one of Klaassen or Davies in front of the centre backs for the majority of games I think the best way for the opposition to attack us is a simple 'ball over the top'. Fine against Williams of course but not Keane...hard to go through the centre, crosses will be headed away...Pickford is very good on long shots...so for me its the ball over the top which is the danger.

Jags and Lescott was a perfect combination and both were very quick. Some of the best centre backs weren't blessed with amazing pace but their positioning was immense...still though, for me a centre back with pace is mandatory if we want to dominate.

Actually, no.

Whenever England are playing an international most countries in Asia will have the pubs totally full of local fans lolz

These guys bang the drum of United and the rest of the 'glamour' sides but a lot of them base their team on whose the English star and who plays exciting football.

Of course success breeds glory hunters but in fact if any side had 4 starters for England or one major standout player then that equals immediate fans.

If we had say Pickford, Keane, Davies and Lookman in the full side then we'd get a lot of interest of course but then people would really enjoy Davies and Lookmans exciting styles and start watching our club.

That makes sense! ;)

Good CB partnerships can be just as important as a 25 goal a season forward. That's why I'm shocked we haven't gone all out for a Van Dijk or Koulibaly as one of those along with Keane and hopefully a Giroud/Benteke to claw 15 goals or so that we'll lose from Rom will see us up there with a reliable keeper also been brought in.
Look at the Italian national team. How often have they gone into a major tournament unfancied and gone on to do really well. The reason...their defence and in particular their centre halves. They just don't concede goals. As someone alluded to earlier, forwards win you games, defences win you titles.
I'd fancy us to keep a lot of clean sheets with Pickford, Keane and VVD. I'd also fancy us to score in most games with Sandro, siguardsson, Rooney and potentially giroud in the team.

Yeh screw 20-year old Chilwell, 17-year old Sessegnon wets your whistle.

Oh, so the 'one to watch' and enormously bigged up in the media isn't Sessegnon.

I'd be happy with either but you cant argue Sessegnon is the one to watch (as I stated)
