Transfer Rumour Virgil Van Dijk

So far they have bought Salah and Robertson for around 43-48m combined, sold Lucas for 5m?, trying desperately to flog Moreno, Markovic and Sakho at overinflated prices.

They do not have the money for BOTH Keita and VVD - 100%, and the money for one of them is hugely dependant on them being able to get the prices for the players they want shut off.

My guess - they will get neither, instead they will settle for someone like de Vrij/Manolas/Gibson- for basically the Sakho fee when sold and get in a 35-40m centre mid which will be paid for by Moreno and Markovic sales, then the current spend will be covered by the fees for the likes of Ejaria, Stewart, Bramnnagan and whatever other 'brilliant prospects' that they've banged on about being sold.

Is that not how you should work as a football club buying players though?
You identify your budget, and you have number 1 target players. You try to negotiate a deal within your price range and if there is a conclusion that you are not going to be able t oafford the player/the selling club are just not downright selling, you surely ahve a scouting database of players who have similar attributes to your prime targets, so you go for them instead

It's laughable, I have no idea what they're actually doing, their squad is piss poor and thin on the ground. It has holes all over the place and yet they want to go out and send £180m on 3 big money signings, whilst making a load of sales which will make their squad even weaker again.

Really does seem they're wasting their time with keita, but they're still pursuing it and planting this "he only wants to play for Liverpool" rubbish, for both players. Their strategy doesn't follow the way fsg want to work at all.

Every club that finished above us last year has made one or two big signings at most. Spurs haven't even done anything so far. Looking at us last year, it's not exactly rocket science to improve our team is it? Doesn't mean we haven't done good business, but it wasn't exactly difficult to improve on some of the dross we had. There's no point obsessing over them- if the RS don't cough up the dough, there's still 5 other teams we need to catch up to and it's still only mid July. Plenty of time for those other teams to do business.

Whether foolishly or not, these teams don't want to pad out their squads with players simply for more numbers. They want to improve on what they have, which gets harder the better you are.

Despite his usual strange dialogue coupled with clownish mannerisms, I don't see anything wrong with what Klopp said in that article- he just shouldn't have said it at all. You have your top targets and you go after them with all you can. If you fail, you have to look around elsewhere. The thing is you don't want to be so adamant in public on your top targets, as you'll look like a moron when you don't get them and any alternatives will be thinking why would I go there when the manager didn't really want me?

We'll see if something similar happens here if we don't get sigurddson? Will koeman have an alternative he wants? Or will Walsh have a list of candidates? The question is how many alternatives do you have? Would you really want a fourth choice alternative?

Thing us what if those other players either go before or prove not straightforward to get over the line?

I actually think Klopp trusts these owners and buys there excuses. By the time he decides to switch targets may well be too late.

So far they signed a kid, a fullback none of them wanted. And a winger who arguably won't start for them and who flopped in this league last time.

He definitely only wants to go to Liverpool. Everybody knows it. No quotes or anything but it just stands to reason.

Conte: Hi Virgil, fancy coming to Chelsea.
VVD: No thanks. Just Liverpool for me!
Conte: But we're champions, have been champions twice in last 3 years.
VVD: Yes but how big is your biggest stand?
Conte: What?
VVD: Liverpool's biggest stand is massive.
COnte: Um ok Virgil, we can offer you £30k a week more.
VVD: Liverpool fans have witty banners.
Conte: You get to live in London.
VVD: I do not care.
Conte: You get to play with Hazard, Fabregas, Luiz, Alonso...
VVD: You don't have Jordan 'HEndo' Henderson though.
Conte: You're a bit weird.
VVD: Maybe, but I will NEVER WALK ALONE.
Conte: They actually can't afford you.
VVD: Then I shall pay for free, it'll be an honour.

what Conte doesn't see of course is that at the other end of the telephone VVD tied to a chair whilst John Aldridge holds a gun to a pigeons head.

Aldo: When the phone rings i want you to read exactly whats on the the piece of paper i just gave you or i will kill this bird
VVD: *Reading* Joe Cole is as good as Messi?
Aldo: No! the otherside.

i'm more laughing at them than obsession. I would love for them to get van dijk and keita for a combined £130m, with their gegenpressing or whatever it's called, they'll still be one very likely injury away from klavan and henderson again.

i'm not envious of any other team's dealings so far, i'm not sure any have actually improved yet. City have spent a vast amount for the future, for example. We've plugged a lot of gaps on the other hand.

I was sort of hoping we would of done that at around the 30m mark, but i'm not one to complain, im just enjoying the everton spending bus ride

it should have been said after they bought them, if they were going to. Alternative signings are hardly going to feel special. Very similar to when i had a go at rom's "man united were the only club for me" comments.
