He’s clearly growing into things now he’s having a run of games, and it appears as if he’s starting to get a bit more confident about things

Defensively I think he’s sound enough, if a bit lightweight, but that can be worked on

Going forward, which was supposed to be his strength, he’s up and down but least he’s trying.

Think next season it could be good if, once him and Patterson take over at full back, Patterson is our attacking outlet from the full backs and Myko shifts the back line into a 3 - kinda like what Ancelotti did when we won at the Tin Mine last season

Was going forward meant to be his strength? I'm sure I read when he signed that he didn't have any assists/goals (or very few anyway) and that he is a more defensive fullback rather than attacking.

Maybe I’m misremembering but was sure everyone said the attacking side of his game was the big plus

Happy to be proven wrong ofc

The first few games shouldn't be held against him, first Benitez then Lampard tried using him as a makeshift left-winger and the results were terrible. He's full-back in the traditional mould, those still work in a 4-5-1 (which has been our best formation for about 20 years). Hopefully Frank leaves him there now and doesn't ask too much of him, he's young enough to still improve his game massively if coached right.

How is Nkonkou been getting on at Liege? Is he good enough to come back and provide competition? If not we do need another LB in the summer ideally, don't want to see Godfrey there anymore but someone has to be capable if Mykolenko drops badly in form (which always tends to happen to our foreign players). Anyways, big pats on the back for the lad today, seems a properly good person and has already taken the club and supporters into his heart.

I think it takes foreign players a while to adjust and he’s been thrust into it to be fair, I was critical at first but seems to coming into his own now with confidence. Long may it continue, still needs work. But it’s encouraging especially after todays display. Well done myko.

…I think you can take an early view on a player but it is important to keep an open mind. He’s not got anywhere near the quality of Digne. I actually thought Digne was a very decent defender in his second season, very decent in the air for a small man and competitive.

Mykolenko has got a better physique, terrific set of shoulders (looks like a coat hanger is still in his shirt). He’s very flat on his feet when facing a defender, he also doesn’t jump his height but he’s game. He’s our only outfield left footer. i would not have bought him if I scouted him, you have to make a decision for your investors based on what you see.

i like him, I sincerely wish him well.

I dont think ive said he has the same "quality" as Digne -- I take that to mean technical ability. However, three things Ive mentioned before:

-- Evra was very poor for half a season after joining United. That was in much better circumstances as well.

-- Mykolenko has been highlighted by a lot of media sources for 3 seasons as being a high potential player - as Digne was.

-- His physical attributes (as you agree) are ideal for a footballer. In that sense a similar type of 'clone' as Godfrey.

Where you write "I would not have bought him had I have scouted him". Im assuming thats based on how hes looked initially since joining...taking into consideration the numerous issues and factors which will have affected him.

With those factors in mind I think thats unfair and you need to look at the positives in his play at least until next season. Weaknesses may be there but these can be coached and developed in a 22 year old with the right attitude.

As Ive always said, he needs a preseason and a bit of time before we see more of his overall strengths and weaknesses.

Have to say though if you went to scout him and the match today was the first time you had seen him then you'd only take away positives. He and Godfrey were top class.

I wonder what Digne is upto at Villa? Oh wait, we've got this fella so it doesn't matter!

I watched their game. Digne was playing very advanced down their left side and put in a few crosses, was taken out by a Spurs player + didnt seem to care about defending.

Not very effective.

Of course hes a good player but he doesnt seem to have pulled up any trees at Villa.

The most impressive things he done yesterday he was he made sure that no crosses came into the box, out quickly to stop them in the good old fashioned full back way.

Id have gone for the defensive header over the bar.

Mis-time that and were 1-0 down and the fans would be slaughtering him.

Fine margins.
