He's won a competition playing for us.

He's never a championship player let alone a premier league one. I'd even suggest there's lads in the academy that could offer more.

Non existent in the oppositions half, poor defender.

People say he's a good defender, what because he can show a man down the line? Positional sense and reading of the game is shocking.

Truth is he's crap, and whenever he can shift responsibility or hide, he does.

By far his worst flaw is that he just hides on the pitch. Never imposed himself on the game or opposition. Glad to not get on the ball.

Contrast with Baines and Coleman back in the day, who you'd often come away thinking were the best players on the pitch.

I just can't work it out at all. Was heavily linked to Man United the summer before he joined us but has been fairly poor in general since signing.

The strangest part is that the attacking part of his game was what he was known at Kyiv whilst being a little dodgy defensively. He's shown absolutely no attacking intent whatsoever here, I can only attribute it to possibly the game being too quick for him in the PL.
He couldn't pass wind

….early in his Everton days I remember getting grief for saying he was ‘ordinary’. Just to think, the Benitez8 celebrated Digne being forced out & this lad coming in.

Like Tom Davies, seems a lovely bloke but I prefer very talented footballers.
Hes never looked like footballer, there is nothing natural about him in possession. Probably a tough lad but he's not going to learn a base of skills at his age at the highest level.

Just me who thought he played alright yesterday?

Yeah, there's definitely limitations on the ball but I can't remember Salah getting change out of him once. Any time he got in behind it was because he was played in. Didn't dribble by him at all.

While he's solid defensively I can't see Dyche taking him out the side. I'd also argue Leeds isn't the time to replace him given Somerville looks like one of their best players at right mid. Wouldn't be against Godfrey mind you.

He made no big mistakes which to be honest is the most I hope from him.

The issue with him for me is he offers absolutely nothing going forward.

I just don't understand this obsession with only judging his performance on how many times someone directly dribbles past him. That is not all there is to defending, just taking out all the other bits of the game that he's utterly horrific at and saying he played well because he blocked a cross is properly bonkers. I don't think i've ever seen it applied to any other full back ever, it's just a criteria that's been created especially for him.

I thought he got left for dead a few times yesterday as well. If the worst happens and we go down he's going to be absolutely useless in the Championship as well given how poor he is in possession.

You not think he made a big mistake for the first goal? Like he wasn't the only player at fault, but not being aware and running out to a player who was already being tracked leaving numerous players unmarked in the middle is schoolboy stuff.

Fair enough - but I don't think being out-paced by one of the fastest players in the league is anything to be too critical of. When we sat deep in the first half, Salah got nothing out of him. When we tried to push a bit higher up the pitch in the second half, Salah exploited the space a little bit.

If we're being honest, our first half is closer to how we're going to be playing between now and the end of the season and I think Dyche will have been happy with what he's seen from him. Especially given he's been against arguably the two best RW's in the league in Saka and Salah.
