Fair enough - but I don't think being out-paced by one of the fastest players in the league is anything to be too critical of. When we sat deep in the first half, Salah got nothing out of him. When we tried to push a bit higher up the pitch in the second half, Salah exploited the space a little bit.

If we're being honest, our first half is closer to how we're going to be playing between now and the end of the season and I think Dyche will have been happy with what he's seen from him. Especially given he's been against arguably the two best RW's in the league in Saka and Salah.

What did you think of him for the first Liverpool goal when he totally vacated the space that 3 of their players were running towards?

I just can't get my head around fans thinking he's alright. It's like playing with 10 men given how he avoids getting involved.

Yeah, it's not good and I've just had the aggravation of looking back at it so I could analyse it properly.

I think he's at fault for the same thing Gueye and Pickford are in that he's got his eyes on the ball rather than analysing the danger. Don't think it's a hanging offence. Think they got the rub of the green with how it fell for them on the edge of the box and then we were simply burned for pace, which is nothing new.

….in fairness, Coleman had an opportunity to stop that attack at source, even if it meant giving a foul away on the edge of their box. It’s what you have to do.

We defend ok when the back four is set but struggle when teams break on us after a set piece. Similarly if the ball is turned over in midfield when one or two of our defenders are a little upfield, we can’t cope. We’ve conceded a few goals when the likes of Gueye got turned over and the back weren’t set.

it’s something Lampard couldn’t deal with.

Nah he had to stay and cover the middle, Made it so so easy for them.

Nah mate, you have to attack the player in pocession as the last man, the full back comes across to cover the centre half’s, otherwise you give the man on the ball a free run at goal . It’s what defenders are coached. There were three centrally anyway, no hope, the only logical thing to do was attack the ball, try and get a block or a foul in.

Dont know what Pickford was at mind.

I think you’ll be in a very very small minority that think he got his positioning right. If Nunez cuts inside and scores from that angle then fine. One thing was certain - Salah scores from his central position.

Liverpool played Spurs once - Sissoko and Son were through 2v1 on Van Dijk. Sissoko had the ball and Van Dijk just covered Son. Let Sissoko go clean through where he blazed it over the bar. Knew that Son was the bigger threat.

It’s full back coaching 101 mate, when it comes to the last man. Centre backs come across for full backs and the full back comes across for the centre back if caught, if your the last man as a full back, you are the centre back and when you can’t mark an overload I.e. 4 on 1, you attack the ball. Its not even my opinion, thats how defenders are thought.

If he stays central, who does he mark, there were three on the overload, he just gets picked off, the only way he could impact the play was attack the ball, get a Hail Mary block in or try to foul.

I know what you are saying re the Spurs game, this was 4 on 1 though. If he stays central he’s marking three while the runner, can cut the angle, penetrate the box, take it on himself or just pick out the one that inevitably gets in the best position, or holds back their run.

Was a hopeless cause anyway, but the% and whathe would have been thought as the last man, is you attack the play and hope to influence it. Last man will never mark space.

Can't see how that's how he would be coached. It wasn't 4 on 1 though as Gana was tracking Nunez so at that point there was no need to go out. He may have to if Nunez beats Gana but not right away. If he stays in the middle where the danger was and marks the space they still may score but it makes it much harder and Pickford doesn't then need to then gamble. It was like watching kids playing football just chasing the ball and not sensing danger whatsoever. Was shocking defending in my eyes. He wasn't the only player at fault for that goal though.

This is so wrong mate. He didn’t even attack the player anyway, he just drifted out in that general direction. If he’d gone flying out there to nail him before could cross it then yeah, but just putting yourself in a position where you can neither stop the ball being delivered or mark someone in the box? No coach is ever telling you to do that, I can assure you of that.
