Both fullbacks were s poor - our wide men playing deep - & two aging centre Half's left exposed - the whole team were slow - no press - no pace ..... Coleman was treading water for their 2nd goal our left back just goes AWOL.....

This is so wrong mate. He didn’t even attack the player anyway, he just drifted out in that general direction. If he’d gone flying out there to nail him before could cross it then yeah, but just putting yourself in a position where you can neither stop the ball being delivered or mark someone in the box? No coach is ever telling you to do that, I can assure you of that.
No decent coach is ever telling you to do the same thing every time regardless of circumstance. You’ll be drilled on defensive shapes and where you should be heading if someone’s out of position etc but you should always be working out where the danger is and how best to prevent it. If you paused that video and asked any professional coach what they would want mykolenko to do I doubt any would say go where he goes. It’s one of those things you might say as a general rule in a classroom but on the pitch you expect a player to see that there’s much more chance of a goal from the pass than the run. He makes a decision that makes nunez’s mind up for him, and means at no point does he get within 10 yards of either man or ball, no coach would ever tell you to do that in a real life situation, regardless of what the guidance might be in a manual. Was a hopeless cause admittedly mate, but if you watch it, he’s the last man, essentially the centre half, he’s come across, it’s clear Nunes has out paced Gana, he has to try and stop the play, the cross I think comes earlier then he expected, to be fair to Nunes it’s a good cross at pace behind the line he’s holding, he’s trusting that out other defenders are getting back and he may be able to force Nunes down the line, if he can hold up play - the others defenders are outpaced by Salah etc.
Id be critical about other aspects of his game yesterday, but we backed ourselves not to get caught on the counter from our own set price and possession - we played that % and got stung, he came across as last man, when Gueye lost his legs, trusting his other colleagues get back - they dont they were beaten in the foot race. I wouldn’t crotosce the lad for what defenders are thought to do as last man. Useless marking a man or apace when you are the last man.

You keep saying he is the last man, yet Gana is with Nunez showing him down the left towards the corner flag. Watch it again they are near enough stride for stride. So there is literally no need for him to go out unless Nunez cuts inside and beats Gana or beats him for pace further down the pitch. Even then, he will probably still be down the left with a lot to do. He made it so easy for him. Woeful defending and awareness.I agree he gets no where near influencing it, he’s caught between Gana - could foul him, then he’s active as last man and trys to get to the player of force him wide, defenders will be told to go to the man as last man, so,that’s his thought process and theroritcally he’s doing the correct thing, in hindsight is it the right decision, that’s subjective. For me he has two unknowns, 1. Where the rest of his defenders are and can they get back to plug the space he’s left in behind, he’s hoping he can hold Nunes up, secondly he doesn’t expect Nunes to cross where he does and the quality of the cross in behind him makes him inactive. Nunes has a better view of the game unfolding.
As we know the play unfolds and he gets caught, being inactive covering Gana as last man, the quality of the cross takes him out - but as the last man he has to go to the ball. In hindsight was it the right decision, to be honest I think he’s on a hiding to nothing 4 on 1, no matter what choice he makes, but I think he does what any defender as the last man would do and be coached to do, come across, get as close to the man in possession of the ball as you can and influence play. I think they still score if he’s marking one and three other bodies are free and Nunes driving into free space.
….in fairness, Coleman had an opportunity to stop that attack at source, even if it meant giving a foul away on the edge of their box. It’s what you have to do.
We defend ok when the back four is set but struggle when teams break on us after a set piece. Similarly if the ball is turned over in midfield when one or two of our defenders are a little upfield, we can’t cope. We’ve conceded a few goals when the likes of Gueye got turned over and the back weren’t set.
it’s something Lampard couldn’t deal with.
But we are all gentlemanly and do things the right way and everyone respects us, well they respect points we surrender. Been a soft touch for years. Both goals Coleman had opportunities to take one for the team, both times he didn't and both times it cost us. But I'm not surprised, they're not savvy, they have no in game management skills or awareness and more importantly, the majority of them (exceptions being Tarkowski, Onana and Gueye ) don't put anywhere near enough foots in, hence we lose a huge amount of 50/50 balls.

Its been a hard period for him, im sure, and he seems a very likeable guy - he just doesnt seem nearly good enough to play in the PL.He's been a real disappointment this season unfortunately
