But he's rubbish every week can't defend can't take a man on can't cross.. McNeil is trying to help him out all the time because he's a liability..
It is completely normal to double up on the sideline, and the intention of our pyramid press is precisely that. Something we have done extremely well.

I mean, this season, other than Iwobi with 6 and McNeil with 2, we have a handful of players with 1. And our right back also doesn’t have any.

Hardly a great beating stick when the rest of the team is just as garbage. He also has maupay to aim for when crossing.

You need fullbacks to contribute something offensively, and I don't think he has it in his game.

Since he joined, I can't recall a single decent cross, never mind an assist.

It feels like the best we can hope for is he doesn't make a mistake.

No idea about Vinagre - but if he has any pace or can cross a ball I'd say have him in at Goodison. Or Godfrey, at least Godfrey has pace/offers a presence.

I’m sorry, as a centre back myself that was all on Myko. Terrible, terrible fullback play.
Nah, go back and watch McNeil and martinelli. McNeil sees martinelli running and just turns away. Myko then is torn between getting saka or martinelli and is totally exposed. He could make a decision quicker but he is caught in no man’s land.

The threat is the man who was on his shoulder, who he was marking. who makes a run inside him. It’s all on him I’m afraid, nobody else, the more I’ve watched it the worse it is. Schoolboys would get a bollocking for positional sense like that, let alone someone playing premier league football.

An I’m sure if he had marked saka and it had gone to martinelli instead and he scored it would have all been Mykos fault for not passing Saka on.

I don't think it's obvious that this is Myko's fault. Ideally, the inner spaces should be prioritized over the outer ones, and it can be argued that Saka is in his zone. At the same time, it is worth watching the goal in the replay, and looking at the excellent positioning of the Arsenal players - if you wonder what positional play is, then you see the essence here. One of the purposes is precisely through the positioning to set up the opponents in lose-lose situations.

But anyway, it's worth looking at the positioning of Tarkowski. He is pulled out of the positioning by Martin Ø, and in this way a space opens up between Tarkowski and Myko. Tarkowski makes a classic mistake here, pressing before the pass is played, instead he is deceived by a visual fake. His primary task in that situation is to shift, and cover for the back - lie on the right side of Saka on the goal side. It should also be said that Gana does a terrible job of closing down passing angles.

He actually beat his man at one point in the first half, couldn't believe it. Knocked it past Saka and then put a pretty mediocre ball in to nobody.

Genuinely think it was the first time I've ever seen him even attempt to go past someone.

I could tolerate him playing every week if he was a defender who imposed himself on the opposition, but you barely notice he's on the pitch unless there's an opposition player directly running at him.

Because McNeil hadn’t tracked Martinelli who was then in space out wide. Myko was trying to cover 2 players and the communication across the back line is crap. (As he needs the CB to shout him as he can’t be looking at saka and martinelli) There’s a still of it 2 pages back and all of the arsenal players have 3yards of space around them as well.

Definitely not just him at fault. And like you say communication needs to be far better. Gueye also did a terrible job of screening the pass. But, in hindsight, he’s got to let that ball go out wide where it’s not as dangerous. Having said that, hindsight init.

You’re putting up a better defence than Myko did for the goal. As the boys on Toffeetv said, you wouldn’t expect to see a positional error like that from a fullback all the way down the leagues, right to the lowest levels, it’s basic.
