Hes so bad it's unreal, every player at the top level normally has one thing they excel it, he doesn't have anything, he's useless
Beyond bad and incredible that we never try anyone else in his position. He will never make it, and needs to be sold atv a discount. Benitez computer glitch.

This - there has been a dramatic drop off recently in his defensive ability
Don’t think so. Never thought he was a great defender. Folk were just so desperate to find any positives that they clung to him being a good defender because he obviously had nothing going forward.

Reality is he’s never looked comfortable or remotely good enough. It was obvious.

I feel like people have turned pretty harshly now. He’s literally been like this since game one but it feels like everyone’s just piled in on him in the last couple of weeks.

People have always held on to the fact “but he’s ok defensively”

His dreadful decision making for Brighton’s 2nd goal and United’s 1st had probably woke a few people up.

He’s always been alright at tackling and blocking and people have made out like he’s a defensive colossus. He’s never been good positionally, tracking runs or pretty much anything proactive. It’s cost us a couple of times recently when it hadn’t before, that’s all.

Think he got a bit of grace with settling in and there was a surge in good will because of the Ukraine problems, but times up, there's no improvement, he isn't used to playing against such quick and clever wide players and isn't positional aware enough to cut off space and angles. To much panic, not enough experience. Championship at an extreme stretch...

I think this is it.

I know I've mentioned it before, but we have this cycle, where expectations are too high when players first come in, and when they inevitably dont hit those heights that turns to anger, and almost a sense of betrayal.

I look at him like we have signed a 22 year old Tony Hibbert (a left footed one). You have to factor in price inflation, but had we have paid 4 or 5 million for Tony Hibbert in 2004 or whatever, it would have been seen as ok business. Not spectacular, but ok.

I think the lad gives his all, but he wont go up many more levels, but I cant fault his attitude. Hes not our biggest problem, but hes by no stretch the modern fullback either.
