He’s always been alright at tackling and blocking and people have made out like he’s a defensive colossus. He’s never been good positionally, tracking runs or pretty much anything proactive. It’s cost us a couple of times recently when it hadn’t before, that’s all.
Yeh, it’s been much more apparent recently, last few games in fact

I think this is exactly right. He has shown really impressive blocking and bravery when defending deep in the past, which is why we were impressed with him for a time. But if he’s not providing that, and he’s been very bad in that area the last few games, then he offers nothing to us. He looks like a deer in headlights with his positioning a lot of the time.

I was hoping the rest of his game would develop with time, but he seems to be regressing now at a really bad time for us. He’s playing timidly and offers no dynamic play going forward. It’s a shame because he seems like a likable guy, but someone that should have cost a quarter of the price.

I think this is it.

I know I've mentioned it before, but we have this cycle, where expectations are too high when players first come in, and when they inevitably dont hit those heights that turns to anger, and almost a sense of betrayal.

I look at him like we have signed a 22 year old Tony Hibbert (a left footed one). You have to factor in price inflation, but had we have paid 4 or 5 million for Tony Hibbert in 2004 or whatever, it would have been seen as ok business. Not spectacular, but ok.

I think the lad gives his all, but he wont go up many more levels, but I cant fault his attitude. Hes not our biggest problem, but hes by no stretch the modern fullback either.

A sensible take. If this guy had come through our youth system we'd be behind him, with a sense of knowing his limitations. Much like Hibbert.

Because we signed him, we have unrealistic expectations that he will never meet. He's very much a left sided Hibbert. The chances of getting another Baines are slim, and we need to stop comparing new left backs to him.

To be honest if this lad had come through our youth system he wouldn't still be at the club.
we had to let Robinson go so you really think after watching him for years through our academy and seen his level of game we would of given him a contract.

And yes he is a very nice honest young lad and I and most people really wanted him to fit in but his gameplay leaves a massive hole when we try to break forward and if it wasn't for the lack of strikers and creative players it would have been picked up more on.

Can people stop comparing him to Hibbert. Going forward fair but defensively, Hibbert was streets ahead. Like, on another planet better than Myko.

It always baffles me that the waiter forced out a left back to then buy another one of lesser pedigree.

That area was never an issue...then he made one and didn't improve it.

Pure Everton that.
