so we sell digne to sign this lad,
and then an injury and we have no left back again - marvelous from fat boy

Think that's were Godfrey and supposedly Delph come into the equation Matty! as cover

Delph is out at season end and Nils will be back from Sporting, so we will have the Russian/Ukraine lad hopefully as first choice and the other two as cover

Everyone signing is a risk for every Richarlison or DCL there is a Klaasen or Tosun.
But, you have to speculate, make signings, try to improve the team.

Mykolenko seems to have a good pedigree for the longer term, but we should not be surprised if he struggles at first as he settles into a new, club, a new city, a new culture, a new team, a new league, a new country.

Remember when Richarlison was signed, there were many who felt it was a waste of money and we would never make a profit on him.
Richarlison made an immediate impact and justified his fee so according to your estimation of the new signing, the two are completely different, so not sure why you bring them up in the same conversation.

If we got the same for Digne as we sign Mykolenko for it would still put us massively up on FFP.

Dignes book value is £6-7mil.

We sell him for £20mil = weve got £13/14mil to spend.

We sign Mykolenko for £20mil on a 5 year deal and we use £4mil this year.

Still £9-10mil to spend on a RB and more.
Sure, but the fundamental problem is doing business that way for trading book value is the surest way to never actually make any progress on the pitch or make any money. The FFP funky wonky misguided fake accounting system out of the way, selling and buying different level players at the same price is the surest way to losing, and theres not a single well run club who would do it.

Richarlison wasnt the same risk.

He was a proven performer in the prem.

He was a Brazil International.

Mykolenko is more of punt by a long way.

Richarlison wasn’t a Brazil international when we signed him, and he’d had one very average and inconsistent season in the Premier League. He definitely was a gamble at the time, we paid for potential.

I don't believe there will be, it has been widely known that we let Richie go to the Olympics as long as we got another season from him, which we are in, therefore he will be moving on in the summer.

This is the model we have all been screaming for over the years, buy young, sell at a premium coming into or in their prime

Digne is now at his highest value, as he has just signed a new contract, he has had a poor 6 months or so, but that's not forever, we will get 35 million for Digne from Juventus, Inter, Newcastle or Leicester (although I would prefer him to go overseas)

It's a model you actually put into place...not fall into cos it suits at this moment.

And it's a bad model for any team who wants to compete at the top, which is what we wanted to do but spent poorly. The buy young and sell is for teams like Southampton who do it to survive.

You keep your best players and add to it overall. The Digne situation is purely a fall out with the manager than some masterplan of sacrificing an asset to improve the squad (we've spent a chunk replacing him).

The only reason why Richy leaves is down to he fact he's been here 4 years, not won a dot or even come close, he's still young and has a huge potential.

And to think about it...we have tried/or have done this buy young and sell in some respects..

Kean
Richy
Dom
Nkounkou
Onyekuru
Branthwaite

There's £100mill+ worth of talent there if we sold them all or managed it right.

Additionally....We brought in Digne, Gomes, Mina, Richy, Keane, Pickford, Dom, Gbammin, Iwobi when they were 25 or younger. So I can't really agree that we've not looked at bringing in players at the right age... we've just bought bad.

So what do we want? A whole team of 20 year olds we can flog in 5 years? Meantime hope they're genuine quality for those 5 years for us to progress? It's daft.

All I know is he was linked to top clubs in the summer, he is young enough and looks like he has a good engine on him

Just disappointing if we get rid of Digne for him

Benitez is the devil and kopite who will relegate the club. He is destroying the club who has not won anything in 27 years by dragging them down from mid table to mid table. Injuries? No money spent? All excuses. A real manager will coach the team into prime Barcelona with 99% possession. Get in line with the "real" fans and ignore all logic and facts. Say anything remotely positive and risk being judged in some true blue court and get all your posts spammed with a tiny ratty middle finger. /s
Hi mate, you are clearly doing this. ?

So you are saying you want to continue with the present blue print, in which we are in the hole still for approximately 45 million. Now that’s daft!

You will note I have stated that Digne is the perfect saleable asset at the moment at 28 ( there goes your 20 - 25 comment) as he has just signed a new contract and doesn’t fit into the managers plans/ assists with FFP issue.

At this point I will have to agree to disagree with you, we are a club that’s treading water, not challenging! We need a strong plan that we keep to and implement, this starts unfortunately by giving the manager time
