So you are saying you want to continue with the present blue print, in which we are in the hole still for approximately 45 million. Now that’s daft!

You will note I have stated that Digne is the perfect saleable asset at the moment at 28 ( there goes your 20 - 25 comment) as he has just signed a new contract and doesn’t fit into the managers plans/ assists with FFP issue.

At this point I will have to agree to disagree with you, we are a club that’s treading water, not challenging! We need a strong plan that we keep to and implement, this starts unfortunately by giving the manager time

Not at all. What I'm saying is the Benitez isn't the blueprint or at least he isn't the one who is making people justify the sale of Digne.

The justification is that he's fell out with him and is getting rid. The "selling prime assets to bring in youth then do it again in the future" people seem to attach to the transfer like it's a masterstroke by the Spanish genius

One signing i was wrong on was Gray, he's done well.

One non-signing i was right on was Dumfries.

I'm pretty confident Mykolenko will be very good for us but my guess is that we dont see him hit the ground running. 2022/23 season is going to be where he adapts.

Thats fine with me as i think we need to recycle alot of the squad and replace with youth and im happy to give them 12-18months to settle and then we go for top 4 in 2023/24 season

Top 4.
Lol

There is a few people mentioning bringing in youth, it got me thinking about the Premier League standard and how it is evolving and the pace is ever increasing. You see how Coleman has been destroyed over the last two years. I reckon that in the not too distant future the sort of age of premiership players will be 18-28 and then after that you could be too slow to stay in the game. Look at what tater is doing at the Arsenal, they have some decent young players coming through and it seems to be clicking for them. I just hope that someone can get a grip of our youth system and abandon this jobs for the lads ethos. This Ukrainian lad seems to be pleasing people with his signing so hopefully it is a sign of things to come, I don't know a thing about him apart from I hope he has the strength of Ivan Drago.

Not a master stroke, just something all the top clubs do, Coutinho for example 140m million, red shyte’s best player at the time

Lukaku sold by Man Utd, Eden Hazard, the list goes on

Im no Benitez fan, but...

When I look at selling Digne, it makes sense (age/doesnt fit with style of play/FFP) and thats the simple equation which is being done in my head.

If I then look at left backs under 23 years old (as i posted a week ago) I came up with Aaron Hickey at Bologna...im also a big fan of Alt-Nouri (who I mentioned before he moved to) Wolves...the list is here:

The list of young high potential left backs is small and, funnily enough right backs are a dime a dozen in comparison.

If the deal goes through for under £20mil and we sell Digne for around £30mil then it wouldnt be a 'masterstroke' but Id say its a very good piece of business.

With the right recruitment.

I posted this the other day:

Pickford
Patterson Godfrey Branthwaite Mykolenko
The average age of that defence is 21.5 as of next season. I dont believe Benitez would go with such a young defence BUT i could see this as being a set of players who all have athleticism, pace, mentality and high individual potential.

If we were able to move on those such as Mina, Digne, Keane and Holgate while seeing the contracts of Coleman and Kenny expire over the next two summers then we could aim for this profile of player.

We may find that a specialist defensive midfielder is brought in (as he did with Mascherano) to add more balance and protect a younger defence...

...id welcome the same type of profile across the squad.

We need the youth team to become a conveyor belt to underpin this type of recruitment.

Sell high...buy younger and lower...repeat.

Until the squad can stay together over a 5 year growth period.

That's not an example of buying young and selling for a need. That's buying the best and then selling to a bigger club when they're done for inflated prices.

None of those club's needed to do it.

With all the weak spots in this team Rafael needed to create another and instead of fixing the right back he
sacks the left back. Digne has not played well for sometime but left-back was not urgent. It is now. And replacing Digne means that with our financial restrictions that there is less money for the the urgent problems.

Im not sure that’s true. FFP wise if we get £30m+ for Digne, which we should, it should allow us more wiggle room to complete more rather than less transfers. Right back will be next on the list I’m sure, and hopefully a centre mid too.

Richarlison made an immediate impact and justified his fee so according to your estimation of the new signing, the two are completely different, so not sure why you bring them up in the same conversation.
I am talking about the reaction to Richarlison when he signed, before he played, just as I am now talking about Mylenko who has now supposedly signed but not yet played.

Agreed, we had seen and heard of Richarlison whereas I at least have not even heard of the other.
We are talking about reactions to signings not performances.
Demarai Greay would be another example. He has gone from being dear at 1.6m to cheap at 20m in about four months.
