What if someone nicks it, covers or removes the plate? the pigs can't be arsed policing themselves and you want em chasing asbo-adonis' on some zippy as e-bike through the back streets and waste land round some arse end of a town? What next, break the helicopter out to chase some scal? The system can't take it, there's killer dogs out there, more rapists free than imprisoned, the growing scourge* of drugs, more people vulnerable on the streets, shoplifters not responded to unless the value of goods stolen is above £250 and there's someone near to respond, non stop protests need looking after, the services have been decimated, the tories have shredded everything that they could get hold of. It's done, there's generations of harm been doled out. Why obey the law? No bleeder else does, and that starts with hancock, and mone, and mogg and all the rest of em. ''great'' britain my arris!

It's a fact though - economical cars e.g. electric don't pay road tax, but they are insured if one was or caused an accident - an accident caused or involved in a road traffic accident pay no insurance - our cars are insured against uninsured vehicles in an accident not with a bicycle - must cyclist are careful as are car drivers, but if they cause an accident + no comeback on them - the Cycle lanes are great ideas for them, but some don't bother using them .....

Insurance alone for an over 18-year-old cyclist would be a start in the right direction - for the purpose above, surely ? Plus registration of their bicycle....

So you want cyclists to have insurance but not pay VED/road tax? Glad you've changed your mind.

I have not - Insurance should be a necessity - the rest should follow why should they use the roads for free when the Government has spent a fortune on cycle lanes - I take it you ride a bike - ? Well get on it & ride into the sunset :D in a cycle lane that is ......

Like you I am an old sod. I haven't been on a bike for many years. My daughter has a diesel car on which she pays no VED. Is it fair for non-polluting bikes to not pay it if my daughter doesn't?

Yes, the diesel ones who were lying about the exhaust omissions ? One of my cars I only pay £10 road tax for it omissions status in that era ..... totally irrelevant IMO about cyclist paying their way .....
