In a prior life, I worked with colleagues in New York whose co-worker was killed by a bicycle in similar fashion.

They are no joke and can be very dangerous on the road. Need to treat them, the road and others with respect.

In the posted video, the guy on the bike absolutely should not be doing what he's doing, but I have no idea what the car is doing either

There's a lot of people driving cars on the road without having passed a test, paid tax and uninsured. And there are a lot who have passed tests years ago but are incredibly ill equipped to be driving a car either through a failure to keep up with changes to the Highway Code, fading knowledge and mental/physical deterioration.

Do you think the nobhead element of cyclists are suddenly going to stop being nobheads in a situation where taxes, tests and registration are brought in?

And if cyclists are caught doing something wrong they often get prosecuted.

I'll ask again - do you think introducing licences, plates and taxes would eradicate the bad behaviour of the nobhead element of cyclists?

If I was a hob (traffic police), fining cyclists who go through red lights would be a daily occurrence.

They cause accidents & the old days have gone - a total liability on the road going downhill the modern cycles exceed 30 mph too - I nearly got run over by one when there was a cycle lane to use - a law to themselves - the government needs to wise up a good income of revenue could be gained - I don't class them all as irresponsible idiots, but there are enough of them & with no insurance its ridiculous the accidents they can cause anywhere any situation on a road especially at traffic lights .....

Why should they get a free meal ticket ? & cause death sometimes with no insurance ?
No driving test etc ?
A total liability I witness daily - the Lycra they wear they should be fined for that gear

Anyone over 16 years as a bicycle rider - needs to be insured - reg plate on the bike - appropriate road tax paid - & have a road licence certificate after passing a basic road test, & adhere to the highway code - end of -

wrongful deaths are a terrible thing and let's not look past them. if bicycle registration reduces bicycle related deaths from 1 to 0 annually, isn't it all worth the effort? thankfully we are ready to solve this problem with some user fees and a new government registry office so we can ignore other problems.

Insurance - number plates- road tax = accountability plus tax revenue in a technological world - Easily done nowadays- police can easily.check with big fines etc on the road pay your taxes logical for insurance definitely imo
