Walter Smith

He once played 8 defenders in a game, his footy was dreadful.

The goals of Super Kev kept us up that season, Smith would`ve taken us down 100%
Yeah but Smith kept us up, using Kev to his full potential dosent detract from that.

We had several 4 0 wins under him, 5 0 too, good away wins...etc it wasnt all bad, at that time he was what we needed, we progressed from HK 3 and had a foundation for Moyes to build on.

Think near the end it was testing for him (and us) but as the story goes he recommended Moyes to Kenwright before leaving.
Was made up as kid when we got him given what he did at rangers but he went from one end of the scale to the other at the time given the shambles we were in.
As previously mentioned at the start he brought in class players who went on to have good careers away from Everton and even through his time with us bought in most of the side that went on to finish 4th.

hope he pulls through.

His Everton side were hardly the most exciting to watch, but I never minded him and he got a tune out of some less than fantastic players now and then

I think we played Man United super early in the 99/00 season (Might have been the first game actually) and we almost beat the treble winners with the game ending 1-1, mostly due to Walter's tactical set up. You could tell Alex Ferguson held him good regard and knew playing us was not going to be an easy ride with Walter at the helm

He's not the sort of manager that it's easy to get misty eyed over, but I think he gets a bit of an undeserved bad rap sometimes. Worse than he probably should have at any rate

I certainly hope he's doing well and makes a full recovery if he is indeed ill at the moment

Ferguson got him involved at United didn’t he ?

I wish him well.

Anyone mentioned his use of his favourite agent yet, Dennis Roache? Shifted loads of players in and out with the aid of him.

Nothing to see there like.

Weir, Stubbs, Campbell and Carsley were good buys. Pembridge and Gemmil were not too bad for the little money involved.

Didn't he buy Nyarko, Alexandersson, Linderoth and Bakayoko though? None of them were on the really cheap side.

Get well soon Walter.

Hope hes ok, apparently Souness mentioned something about him being I'll at the weekend.

I loved going home and away under Walter, there was some memorable games, for good reasons.

Remember a couple of big wins at Watford, truly memorable moments as you say. One just before Christmas, we had the whole end, I remember Hutchison hugging a fella who ran on to celebrate a goal as a copper was trying to nick him.
