When I finally got through to the Arl Fella on the Saturday...no mobiles back then, I asked him was he ok,
Me? Yeah I'm ok, I didn't go.
Why?
I woke up this morning and thought - I not going, I just didnt fancy it...(he had a stand ticket)
The next day, l those years ago we sat in my Dads front room on Sunday afternoon watching Duckenfield making what was loosely termed - a statement - one of those that actually says everything, but nothing.
Titter ye not, but every now and then I get what can only be termed as flashes, thoughts that pop in my head...most of us do...times when we just Know.
I said...what he means is nobody will really say anythjng until we've all gone away and got our stories straight.
And so it turned out.
When it all finally came to Court...and before it got, rightly shunted off here - 'sub judice' and all that.
I...and many others said - Nobody will serve one day in prison.
The only guy who got 'done' was the Stadium Health and Safety Officer, he got fined £6500...probably because it we his name on the certificate
iirc, Duckenfield went to trial 2 or 3 times(?) NOWT.
Now the latest 3 are found Not 'kin Guilty on perverting the course of justice...which carries some stiff penalies.
potentially 20yrs or more.
Not Because;
Yes, they told lies,
Not Because;
Yes, they changed reports and statements - all that and probably more too.
But;
Because the hastily convened Taylor Enquiry...which had to give recommendations before the start of the next season...was not 'Judicial' enquiry. It couldn't swear in, compel people to even attend, let alone speak...truthfully or otherwise.
None of your official 'Justice' was actually there to be perverted
Cases dismissed
Accused all walk, the Govt. walks away too.
Which ever clever chappie thought that wrinkle up fully deserved his 'K' / Promotion or whatever he got.
Shame.
