A quick search of the site and they look like they have come a long way from the stuff I saw as a kid. Lots of detail in the models.

Yeh the updated models are wonderful now. Some of the latest armies released look amazing like Ossiarch Bonereapers and the soon-to-be released Lumineth Realm-lords.

Much easier to assemble too.

I dabbled in collecting and painting but never enjoyed actually playing the game ( and my painting was average at best). But loved SpaceHulk
I was more into the fantasy until they scrapped it. I went for 40k witch hunters and inquisitors and sisters of battle because they had interesting models.
I moved to the PC Vermintide, Mechanicus, Inquisitor, etc as far cheaper and takes up less room.

This is all set to rival the wrestling nonces thread.
I'm sure there is a happy venn diagram of those that like nothing more than watching sweaty men grapple and chair shot each other while also having a great time battling with other like-minded mini army collectors.

More power to those people!

I'm having to Google all of this lol skeleton guys and elf dudes?

Haha yes, so back in Warhammer Fantasy they had Tomb Kings (skeleton Egyptians), High Elves, Wood Elves and Dark Elves which was easy to follow but then they scrapped Warhammer Fantasy and released Warhammer: Age of Sigmar which is a new canon really and quite confusing but listed under 4 Grand Alliances: Order, Chaos, Death & Destruction.

Ossiarch Bonereapers aren't Tomb Kings but sort of replace them in the world:

I cannot imagine having the time to build and paint that. Mine would look like this:

I've only ever played once , won it and retired unbeaten. Helped I didn't stick to the rules.

Old friend of mine collected them, the prices are ridiculous. He met his dad after 20 years and turns out he collected army figures in much the same way. Must be in the genetics.
