Do you warm the plate to put cold food on?
I once tried to warm a plate on an electric ring. Tbf it did get the plate warm despite it cracking into several pieces.

I find warming the food much more effective.
It seems to one of those older people seem to think really makes a difference

The rain, it raineth every day
It's to keep the food hot for longer ; stick the plates in the microwave for a couple of mind and forget about expensive plate warmers.

Probably goes back to proper cooking pre microwave.
