Was it all that bad? Top 5 changes worth retaining from Roberto's years

There are a few things about Martinez' three years which were undeniably good, don't you think?
Of course it was time for change, but here are my top 5 good ideas I hope we don't lose.

1) Fearlessness against top teams. Apart from against Liverpool, we conquered the fear of big teams, and had some really memorable wins against Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal in particular.

2) Martinez attracted some surprisingly good players to EFC, who seemed to come for him, the style and the idea of what we wanted to do. Even if they might not have worked out long term, think Eto'o, Lukaku, Barry, Geri

3) A playing culture throughout the system, from youth to the first teams, was apparently put into place, getting them playing in a particular way.

4) Promoting young players, most of the time. Although at the end it was a bit crazy when the excellent U21s were not getting selected ahead of injured or out of position seniors, having blind faith in Barkley, Stones & Lukaku must have given them confidence (and a bit of complacency too)

5) Loads of English & British players...we might have almost had 5 players in the England squad, and a good core set of other British lads

I like what he did with Unsy, Big Dunc and other blue-blooded players behind the scenes, and two semi finals is not bad! I hope that some of the good things Roberto did are not ripped up

I hope the playing culture he installed is very quickly abolished otherwise we're in for some rotten years.

Fearlessness against bigger teams? You've got to be kidding. We've been beating all the best teams at Goodison for a long time now. The problem has always been away from home, and guess what? It's still the problem. Moyes couldn't buy a win against the big boys on the road and neither could Martinez.

The only saving grace is that Martinez' reign ended this year before the damage he'd inflicted had become terminal.

Positivity.

Obviously not Martinez's brand of ludicrous, over-the-top nonsense; but still, I prefer some upbeat stuff to constant "plucky little Everton, knife to a gunfight" style plop.

That's all I can think of though, it was mostly pretty poo to be honest. Let's all move on with our lives. We're looking at you, Mr Moshiri....

Agree with most of that.

Not so sure about number three.

I have to say I came to hate the "particular way" of playing Bobby had going throughout the system.

Passionless and dull.

disagree vehemently. we literally didn't have a win against any of the teams in the top half this year. not home nor away. winning A match means little. it's odd on that EVENTUALLY we'd win at those places.

I think number 2 is a good point, however Moyes signed a couple of good 'uns too.

Yakubu and Andy Johnson were hot property at the time.

Not sure what was more despicable: Martinez' stubborness / stupidity or the Club's paralysis. Martinez caused the stink and the Club refused to open the window.

Yes, it very much was that bad.
