It was a strange decision but my guess is that the Everton player was sandwiched between 2 Liverpool players without any real contact but deemed that he was obstructed, therefore an indirect free kick. Sharpy had a mare.

That was a night of shame unfortunately for our club, some of the stuff that went on about John Barnes that night was just disgusting mate.
Unfortunately that happened at almost every ground in those days. Thankfully it's all in the past now (in this country) and not condoned by anyone.

It did mate sadly yes,on a weekly basis,but that night in the context of Barnes first derby,not just the chanting,there were bananas being chucked from our end every time he came near,a game I always remember for good and bad reasons.
