Like this reviewer, I bought this watch from Argos about 10 years ago for around £70.

Punches well above it's weight in terms of looks and reliability, apart from battery changes, every 2 years, still looks as good as they day i purchased it.

Glass completely unscratched, and a brilliant time keeper.

Yeah I do as well. I've read a few things that give me pause though. Movement seems to be the Citizen Eco Drive, which is fine but a few hundred quids worth max, possibly a pricey bracelet...

What’s the general thinking of Breitling?

I got a SOH last year and love it. I got a couple of rubber straps and the mesh steel so it is a perfect watch for me for virtually all occasions (I have an ultra slim one for formal outings)

in its first month its timekeeping wasnt impressive; I changed the date at the end of November and since then it has gained about 30s in 3 months without adjustment

Ive had a few (Superocean Heritage, Superocean 42, Chonospace, older ana-digi Navitimer). They're well made and make a statement, but like so many other big Swiss names I struggle with current pricing.

I got a great discount by shopping around and paying cash

yeah me too, I looked at Rolex and while some look lovely, I couldnt justify the extra 10-20k when I like the look of the SOH just as much, and I wouldnt be as conscious about wearing it than a 20-30k Rolex. The SOH suit both the mesh steel and rubber bracelets. I went for the green one as there are plenty of blue watches, not so many green. It looks lovely when the light catches it.

Generous, was thinking $300 max...hell you can get a classic (DW5600 type) G-shock, with all the bells and whistles, for around $150 and not look like you're wearing a dinner plate on your arm.
