Watches

The watch was under $300 new so the movement can't cost too much... I would guess the newer models use something of the same movement, but I really don't know much about the inner workings of a watch except the pieces are small, and when I was a kid I disassembled and broke my NES blaster and couldn't play duck hunt, so that gives you some insight into my wrench turning skills. I'll be doing whatever the local watch repair shop says they can do.
That post brought me back. I think I have my old Power Pad boxed up in the basement

TBH I can't do a busy face...my watch fascination has mainly revolved around old pocket watches and it's followed me to wrist watches as far as simplicity goes. My Seiko is pushing the tolerance level. heh...there's only so much you can cram in to 38-44mm and I won't go above that in size. I can wear up to a 50 and have it look alright as long as it's not 20mm high, but it just becomes too much for my preference.

i don’t like busy either, I would prefer clean, sharp lines, but as the e6b has personal/professional meaning and as my wife picked it out for me I like it. And it’s probably the fanciest watch I’ll ever own.

here she is, fixed. Apparently it was just a dead battery. Forgot she lights up in the dark. Not fancy but I like it. I don’t have a steak to lay beside the watch, am I doing this wrong?

Steak's bad form, man...I laid mine in a quinoa salad next to my leather-bound Limited Edition (copy 09/50) of 'Leaves of Grass' and posted it for all of Instagram to see, 'cause I'm woke like that. Yours even says 'Swiss' on it...better add a dollop of truffle butter on that steak, elitist.

Never heard of torgoen..

Very nice looking watches though!

Just made payment on this. (early 50th to myself)

It's from my birth year (71) making it a period correct 'moon watch.' (though I'll need to change that manky strap)

The Omega Speedy fan inside me is quite excited because it's one of a small batch that slipped through quality control with an error.

Will pick it up when I'm next in the UK (I saw it around this time last year. Checked with the dealer, it was still available so it was clearly meant to be. Or nobody else wanted it haha) Screenshot_20201124_200654.jpg

Not that you asked, but that watch uses as ETA G15.211 quartz movement. ETA is a Swiss company that makes watch movements; they are almost always associated the mechanical movements and many high-end watch brands use mechanical ETA movements. ETA is much less known for their quartz movements. The vast majority of quartz movements are made in China, but companies like ETA and Ronda still make swiss quartz movements (Japanese companies like Casio, Citizen, Seiko, also make quartz movements). Quartz movements are much more accurate than mechanical ones because you just need to cut a quartz crystal to a given shape and run a current through it with a battery. The crystal vibrates at a consistent frequency that, with some gearing mechanisms, can be converted to dividing time into increments that we are used to (seconds, minutes, etc.).
