Watches

Lovely looking watch I think! But is it just cheap?

I personally find it a bit bling-ey and cheap-looking (my opinion only). I think this company is one that "curates" its reviews on its own site, only posting the positive ones (literally every watch has only 5 star reviews). The reviews elsewhere, such as trustpilot, are quite negative. Despite the relative inexpensive price, I think you'd be far better off going with any Seiko, Timex, Citizen, Hamilton, Bulova, or Orient. All these companies make mechanical watches that can be found for under 200. I don't get a good feel from this company.

1. It's cheap, it's Chinese. Buyer beware.
2. alternate rec - If you don't mind cheap and Chinese buy yourself a Seagull 1963 (with a 1930s era Venus movement made by equipment passed to the Chinese via the Soviets in the 50s) and enjoy it until it breaks (and it probably will eventually). You'll never be able to afford to get that movement repaired when it does. Lovely display back and a classic 40s style chrono dial in a variety of formats and trademarks are available. The feel of the pushers is pretty abominable and it winds like a wringer washer, but the movement is awfully pretty with the faux blued screws and the beginner level Geneva stripes.

Seagull...great call!

Seagull provide un oiled ebouche movements to many different builders,if the oil it and do just a bit of QC they aren't a bad movement. Fricker a well known German watch builder did a model for TZ-UK some years ago and as far as I can see on the forum it was very successful and has lasted well. There are even rumours Seagull make parts for a couple of more "high end" brands,that are Swiss made.

@verreauxi

Did you purchase your Series 8 through Seiya? If not, have you purchased anything through him? What's the current deal with customs (fees/wait etc)?
Yes. Purchased through Seiya. Done many successful transactions with him. Very good guy. He ships thru DHL and customs/tax is about 10% additional to the watch price, if I recall. But by and large, once it ships from Japan it arrives in about 7-9 days with about 2-4 of those days in customs clearance. Never had a problem with customs (knock on wood) or Seiya.

Ok, thanks much...contemplating the SARW013 "Urushi". I'm super picky with any dress watch as I'm not in frequent need of one so I want it to be a "one and done" (yeah, right) and it's about the only one that's satisfying my needy criteria but isn't the same cost as a new vehicle. To make matters worse, I'm now suffering from FOMO as I was originally looking at the SARD011 and he's now sold out. ?
