I doubt Koeman would have spoken that openly about him if there hadn't already been discussions about both the viability of a move for him and whether Rooney himself found the prospect appealing.

Great football brain, amazingly talented, unselfish and a superb goalscorer. He's just what we need alongside Lukaku imo, minus a bit of pace.
Had we had him playing off Lukaku this season I think we'd be a lot higher in the league. He'd hugely improve the service to and link up with Lukaku, he'd be useful in breaking down stubborn defences and is a proper goalscorer. We have one goalscorer in the squad atm with a good but not great defence which is why we're not in the top 6.
He'd probably only be able to play every week for one season, but I don't care, I'd love to see him alongside Lukaku.

No room for a 4-3-3 for me. The 3-5-2/3-4-3/5-3-2 works and he fits in all of them.

However, the 22-year-old could have to make a move to Old Trafford if he is to complete one of his burning ambitions.

Speaking to Belgian magazine Le Vif during a Nike photoshoot, he revealed his huge admiration for and desire to play with Rooney.
