I was fortunate to be born in this fair city to a family of Evertonians. My dad and uncle not only attended home matches but when time and money allowed away matches, pre war before motorways when trains spouted steam. They were Evertonians. I grew up surrounded by Evertonians who scraped money each year for matches ,season tickets and travel to see their beloved toffees. People who travelled the length and breadth of not just the country but Europe and in some cases further to see the mighty blues. Then as now people who will travel hundreds of miles to shout themselves hoarse on a rainswept terrace in some desolate town , witness victory or defeat, travel home happy or despondent and do it all again the following week. These are Evertonians. I hear sometimes of people who support Everton from afar who save their money and travel vast distances to see Everton play just once in their lifetime. They are Evertonians.
Since I began watching football I have seen many players who gave everything on the pitch from the sadly recently departed Alex Young, through players such as Brian Labone, Alan Ball, Joe Royal Howard Kendall, Mick Lyons, Bob Latchford,Neville Southall, Graeme Sharp, Peter Reid, Andy King, Tim Cahill, and many more. Some were local lads , some were born reds, some came from afar , they all loved the club and served it as far as they could. They were all Evertonians.
Rooney left the club when he was a snot nosed kid, to make a career (and a fortune) as ManUtd'S captain and top scorer.
He is NOT an Evertonian, no way. What has he ever sacrificed for Everton to compare with any of the above? Nothing.
Do one Shrek you ugly traitor.
With respect... stupid argument. To players it's a job, of course he's an evertonian.. has been since he was a little lad. In your career f you were offered the equivalent of what he was as a 16 year old inexperienced and Naïve kid are you gonna tell me you wouldn't do the same. Football for players is a job... same as your job or my job..... the team you support is your passion.I was fortunate to be born in this fair city to a family of Evertonians. Lad, I'm an Evertonian if I'd have had the chance to play for Everton you would never have persuaded me to leave. Simple. I have a great Uncle who was once on Everton's books briefly in the early1920's he is still spoken of with reverence in the family. 'With respect'I find your argument utter testicles. With respect... stupid argument. To players it's a job, of course he's an evertonian.. has been since he was a little lad. Your heart and passion are obviously there o see.. but they cloud your rationality. You can find my thoughts whatever you like mate but at least I can separate the issue of a fans point of view and a career.Lad, I'm an Evertonian if I'd have had the chance to play for Everton you would never have persuaded me to leave. Man comes back to his childhood club to lead them to winning the league. What dreams are made of.
Its easy to say that, but if you were a top footballer who has potential to be a world great and your boyhood club were going now where fast, then a major club in world football came for you - what would you do? I, like many others would jump ship. That wouldnt stop me from being a fan of my club.Lad, I'm an Evertonian if I'd have had the chance to play for Everton you would never have persuaded me to leave. Fair point. I guess, as fans, it's probably about value for money in performances. As in, we could get 3 players for that one. Whilst your point is still valid with that last argument, I can only offer that people are thinking of the long term prospects of the club.I'll never understand why people worry about the wages a player will be on. If you're not the one paying him, why does it bother you?
This is probably the only argument that would make me reconsider my opinion on having him back.If we're in the Europa League next season he'd be handy for squad depth too.
Great post mate. Don't agree with you on Rooney mind, but great post nonetheless.I was fortunate to be born in this fair city to a family of Evertonians.
