...interesting take from the Echo that yesterday was an orchestrated attempt by EFC to woo Rooney;

I still think he's good.
He's 31, people are talking as if he's touching 35.

NEA if he comes or not tbh. My main point was, the argument of wether he's a blue/judas whatever doesn't concern me.
The thing is, his body isn't like that of a 31-year-old professional footballer. Look at Zlatan, 35, and still in absolutely perfect physical shape. Rooney peaked around 5 years ago, and in the last 2 years has dropped off substantially. If we'd have had the opportunity to sign him for a nominal fee 2 years ago and have him come on 100k a week, I'd have been for it on a 2 or maximum 3 year deal. But now, when he's even behind Rashford in the pecking order and looks like his legs have gone and his killer instinct in front of goal has deserted him, having him join us as way out top earner (it's the only way he'd come), no thank you.

Aye but do we want rooney earning double the amount of our actual best players ? lukaku is looking at a contract around 160K PW mark imo thats a 140k pw pay decrease for rooney. the only way I see this possible is if we either buyout his contract and man U effectively release him to us for free or a large signing on bonus

yep, of course, i think we'd probably offer him the same ballpark figure as lukaku. granted, it's a massive wage decrease, but you just got to say to him, do you want to play for the club you support again, or are you still just interested in money? If he still chooses the money then more fool him and we move on. He's on 300k a week atm, i can't fathom why on earth he'd moan about the decrease tbh, there's nothing in this world he can't afford. He's never going to have to worry about money (unless he's a moron with it) again so it's up to him whether he wants one last thing to tick off his bucket list or just retire slowly.

It is not all about the football

Soz, but in my mind it is. If Koeman sees him adding something good to the first team squad, and I dont mean "been a winner" flannel, then fine. Hes the boss and (hopefully) knows more about football than me.

The brand gubbins comes after that circle is squared.

You deffo dont get him for global brand awareness and shirt sales, then shoe horn him into the team as an afterthought.

16 years of football week in and week out though and a lot of his game was based around how dynamic he was.

That concerns me.

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is an attractive brand overseas.

Everton's Wayne Rooney? Not so sure about that.

I agree, United are massive worldwide, if Rooney leaves, they will just go and by the shirts of whoever United sign next, I doubt they will follow Rooney to Everton.

The only reason I would sign Rooney is to improve the team, paying someone £100k plus to try and make some of that back in shirt Sales etc is not worth it, Moshiri will have planned to increase the clubs exposure without Rooney.

More I think about it the more I would rather a player in there prime coming in to join us.

Rooney signing wouldn't be a disaster and he would be a good foil for Rom, but he isn't the 2nd striker capable of bagging 15 or so goals a season that I would like us to try sign.
