Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

Where will he play Rooney ?
If Lukaku is injured, suspended or needs to be rested he can play as a striker.
If Barkley is injured , suspended or needs a rest he can play as a no. 10 or an advanced midfielder.
We have seen him play out wide for Utd.
The top teams are all playing more than fifty games in a season and that is our ambition, there will be more than ample opportunity to give Rooney lots of football.

I'm firmly against this. He's not good enough anymore, plain and simple. None of the other stuff matters. If you sign him then you're blocking a place for a younger player to come in who would potentially help the team for 5+ years. If you're trying to build a team that is working its way toward real contention, then having a declining player as a stopgap shouldn't be part of that plan, regardless of any fairy tale feelings the move might create.

Haha same mate, except I think I did it in 2010 haha I've always remembered it.

Anyway, people need to calm down. There's nothing suggesting we're going to offer our buy him etc, just a nod of approval from koeman. Think people need to calm down until the summer because I still can't see it happening myself
If Paul Joyce says we tried to loan him in January I'm pretty sure we are fully on board with wanting to sign him.
Jose seems open to Rooney moving on , to me it looks like it would have been a loan till the end of the season then a deal thrashed out in the summer.
As long as the figures stack up I think he'll be an Everton player in the next few months.

Don't know why but every time I see us linked with signing him,an image of Gascoigne flashes in my head. And I want it to stop.

I think he be here next season, that's why he turned down China, be a good marketing idea and he still a good player

We've cleared out/are clearing out a lot of dead wood. We need a few new faces. Yes we want youth and those in their prime at 27ish years of age to fill out the glaring gaps in our squad but it's not Rooney OR one other player (hopefully anyway, I know we're talking about Everton here).

We don't have ANY winners in the squad (and haven't for years) and he has played at the top level of top competitions against the best sides in the world and won. For me it would be a great boost for the players, (most) fans and club image.

As long as we sort out the obvious holes in the squad AND get him on terms that suit the club (lower wages, shorter contract) then we should definitely try sign him.

Like I said though, this is Everton...

Id take him back. We need players like him for the younger lads to learn from.

Id slot him in with barkley behind Rom in the current system. Rotate him and lookman depending on the type of opposition.

I know he doesnt have the pace but he does have great vision and passing range. He will create chances for rom and ross.

Id even consider making him captain.

He's a winner. We don't have that in the team.

He's only 31... still got at least 2 years of playing at the top. No brainer to bring him in - could teach Ross a thing or two.

He'd be captain pretty soon after his potential arrival.

Absolutely.

Valencia won't be here next season, very possibly the same for Belgian Super Kev, Lookman still needs another couple of seasons before he will be really consistent.

So we will have three in midfield of Gana / Schneiderlin / Davies and a forward line of Rooney / Lukaku / Barkley

Hands in the pants stuff

Keep going, I'm close.

Yep, he's averaging a goal a month since the end of 2015 and he's on his second successive manager that doesn't see him as a competent (at this level) forward anymore and that's not including the England managers that no longer play him in forward positions.

Despite the fact a fair few successful teams have done exactly that, latest example being Torres getting brought back to athletico where he's done brilliant for them even though a very much faded player.
