Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

Does he have worldwide following? And would he have one as a former utd and ex England player....?

I would believe so yes, if Rooney does become available I can guarantee there will be lots of clubs lining up to buy him. I think USA, China and maybe some Qatari club would be offering obscene amounts of money to attract him. Why ?

1. He is a world wide football star.
2. He is still a good player imo.
3. He will make a small fortune for clubs in terms of shirt sales etc.

Just my opinion, I know most of us are split down the middle regarding a potential return.

People talking football regarding rooney have valid points on both sides, one major factor is his winning mentality. We lack it, highlighted by Carragher in the two part video.

Also we must look at signings in a financial POV. His wages will be high, even with a paycut, yet the exposure and commercial sides of the deal will be great for Everton. I mentioned a few pages back, that United, Madrid and Barcelona rely heavily on players with world wide followings, see Zidane, Ronaldinho, Messi, Beckham and Zlatan as prime examples.

Its all about the money, money, money.

Those players have world wide followings and play for those clubs because they are world class players. The best of the best (Maybe not Beckham but he was still good obviously).

Anyone who plays for those clubs become world wide stars, not the other way around. The clubs are the brand more than the players.

Agreed to a certain extent, I think its more 50/50 than both you or I believe in reality.

Madrid are a brand of course, but they need to bring in little bits of branding from players, Zidane, beckham, the galacticos of my childhood for example.

If Rooney comes to Everton, are Everton already a brand boosted by Rooneys brand added to the mix ? Or is it the other way round, where Everton need to sign stars to be a brand ? I guess its probably a bit of both.

Rooney doesn't have the same gravitas as the ones you mentioned though. All apart from Beckham you mentioned were in the conversation for best player of their era, Rooney wasn't. If Zidane spent all his career at Marseille, or lets say he went to Atletico Madrid instead of Real Madrid would he still be an iconic player? I'm not sure he would as good as he was.

I just don't think he is marketable to the way some seem to think he is. As I have said loads, shirt sales mean nothing with our current Kitbag deal and he doesnt hold the same appeal as a Beckham, Ronaldo, Messi etc as he is a shy bloke with a bland face and a bad weave on top of his head. He neither has the charisma (Beckham, Ronaldinho) or the best of the best moniker (Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane) to make him a marketing dream without the Manchester United brand (or England to a lesser extent) attached to him.

Obviously he would improve things somewhat at first from a marketing side of things but in the end I think the difference will be negligible.

I can't reveal my source as its not directly football related but the Rooney family is certainly exploring a relocation back to Merseyside.
For the record,Rooneys auntie lives in croxteth hall lane and is friends with my sister[sister seen rooneys baby etc before pics were ever in the open and so on],she told my sister that Rooney was comming back to everton, but at the end of his contract, this was said a year ago though, could happen before if you believe anything and everything over the months, this been Everton i wont believe a thing till anything is signed/sealed and delieved with us

Again, I see your point, Rooney Isn't as marketable as the others I mentioned, but I think that it could be that sort of level in terms of Everton.

Rooney to Everton would be a huge story, not the same level as Beckham to Madrid, but it would be similar headlines at a smaller level.
In terms of kitbag you are right, it wont matter right now, but I think Moshiri is aware of what im talking about. Rumours are (just rumours) that Moshiri wants out of the kitbag deal. If true then im guessing he would like to bring in a marquee signing or two in order to boost our own revenues via shirt sales and merchandise. Like it or not, this is what big clubs do, we laugh at the day trippers across the park, but they spend a fortune on goods from the store.

don't believe this...maybe part of the extended 'Rooneys' but not the main man
Doesn't he live in Prestbury? Why bother? Is he moving back to Croxteth?
this, on the other hand, seems more plausible

There are a lot of Rooney family's in Merseyside

the post was vague
Vague VAGUE? 99% of media stuff is made up and vague...It's GOT ffs, it's 'vague' by its very nature as nobody knows f'all. It's all speculation and opinion and like I know where every member of his extended family live

This is why I cannot understand how the clubs fell for this "image rights" nonsense

People watch matches because of the names of the clubs involved, not the players.

Yes, the best players will gravitate toward the best teams but it won't matter if Neymar or Bale move on this summer....the names of their respective clubs will continue to attract the world's best players and gazillions of TV viewers worldwide.

Real Madrid v Barcelona is a much bigger deal than Valencia v Sevilla would be, even if those two latter teams had Ronaldo and Messi in their ranks.

It was deliberately vague... but from what I've heard Rooney is considering a family move... back! To be fair he would still be close enough to stay at United so he might just miss red squirrels!

They do, but they have had those supporters for years. You wont just get people to change allegiance because we sign a player. People generally support clubs not players.

A more important why do boost our revenue may be to get more of a presence in Liverpool itself. Of course we do a lot in the community etc but in terms of visibility we may as well not exist at times. Anyone from out of town visiting Liverpool wouldn't even realize Everton was a club in this city unless they were wandering down Liverpool One (and managed to walk past the minty Liverpool shop.) as there is nothing to show that we are here. No billboards etc, and no shirts in shops. Its madness.

I don't think it would be a huge story either as it would be seen for exactly what it is, a former quality player going back to his home town club because he can no longer cut it at the pinnacle of the game.
