Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

That would be an embarrassment bringing him back. I have a lot of time for Rooney, but this is way too late in the day.

It's got "Kenwright Productions" written all over it. Bring a blue home and distract the fans.

Everyone here can have an opinion on whether Rooney is done or not, only time and Rooney will tell. But we all sit here and complain about increasing the Everton Brand. Rooney will do that. There will be TV cameras at every game waiting to see that Superstar come Home. Will he score for his Boyhood club, will it be as big a splash as his first time he scored against Arsenal? Can you imagine the media attention on our trip to old Trafford next season? This will generate huge tv ratings across the world with him in the squad. Novelist, screen play writers will be lining up to write this story. Never been a Kenwright fan but this could be brilliant if it works out. No matter what happens it will all be good.

Phew! I think you're overcooking that a bit mate.

Rooney is not the box office he once was. His star is not in the ascendency anymore. He may have an Indian summer in him but that is a massive gamble to take, and one that sends out the wrong message imo.

As said, I like the lad. I've always supported him against criticism. But purely on football terms it would be a mistake.

I wasn't asking to debate but if you make such a strong statement using emotive words like disgrace then be prepared to have somebody genuinely ask the question
Disgrace is strong word ... a campaign of betting on matches in which you are involved is disgraceful
Moving clubs is part of the business of football

Not to get into semantics, but surely the word disgrace is a subjective concept and based wholly on your own opinions and morals, i dont really see a campaign of betting matches as a disgrace as in comparison to say whats going on in Syria. Do i consider what he did to Everton a disgrace, from a footballing morality point of view and the possible impact on the football club and its 10s to 100's thousands of fans worldwide, absolutely.

I can understand that others dont feel the same way or have been balmed by the passing of time. Not here though. Certainly i dont think he deserves to be handed a weekly salary North of 100k a week for what he did to the club.

Not sure what HE DID to the club ... the club did it
He did nothing to the club he did what footballers do he was transferred fir big money .... the club could have kept him
The club sold him as soon as United came calling ...
As I recall he was still under contract
The disgrace was not that of an ambitious teenager it was the disgraceful management of the club
What he did to the club was the season after he left we qualified for C L without him

You think, Maybe, But here the media makes a comment on whether Rooney is on the bench and not playing, whether he is really hurt. He scores a Jammy goal last week, and the headlines are the Captain is back. Lets face it, the media loves a Rise a fall and risen again story. I just Want Everton to be a Major part of the story. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

In the bin. Are you seriously saying signing Wayne Rooney wouldnt lift our global image. Oh man....

You are right- it certainly would increase our global visibility- i don't deny that. But it would in a negative way. We would be the club who sign over the hill stars because we struggle to attract them when they are actually performing at their peak.

Rooney is 31, he has a footballing brain that is very few and far between in British footballers, he easily as another 4/5 years at the top.

He was never a speed merchant, it was his ability on the ball which made him a prized asset. As part of a squad I cannot see how anyone would say no
Perfectly put. I couldn't have said it any better. Barring injury he would be a big asset for us.

Except , nobody actually cares about him anymore, he's already yesterdays chip- papers.

I'll be made up if he signs so I can boo him even more than the 2 times a season I've done it since he left us the fat mess.

in all seriousness though, I still think he'd do a job, well better than just doing "a job" tbh. I'd be expecting him to bag 15+ goals across all competitions and help us win one of those nice shiny things we used to win but haven't for far too long now.

Ask yourself- if Rooney never played for Everton and virtually every other aspect was the same in regards to his current shape, form and age, would you still want him? I think people are overestimating his value in marketing the Everton brand as well. I hear more about Lukaku from others in the states than I have about Rooney in the past 3 years. LUKAKU IS OUR MARKETING

But Lukaku wants out. I wonder if Lukaku changing his mind if we sign Rooney would change other peoples minds? He has said in the past he would love to play alongside Rooney.

I personally think that was a PR answer, but we will see. I'm not bothered by the Rooney transfer if it comes on a free. If we spend any significant money on him, I won't be to preased.
