Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

No problem

Negatives:
- MIGHT be past it
- Expectations will be high meaning he's on a hiding to nothing
- Could possibly be hampering a youngsters place in squad

Positives:
- Still a big name player that may help attract other players to club
- Huge financial/ marketing exposure
- A proven winner at the club
- A great role model for younger players
- Will clearly have a point to prove, so could be getting the Wayne Rooney with that fire back in his belly hopefully (and that player WILL improve our 11)
- Not arsed about salary - we are minted
- Can see it improving atmosphere in ground due to obvious reasons (coming home etc)
- Best case he improves 11, worst case he improves the squad

Could go on but getting bored myself now

-john terry is a big name player, anyone with sense wouldnt want him either.
-selling a few shirts in asia isnt gonna be a game changer for us when we still have amateurs(elstone) doing our finances/marketing
-shagging prossies, drinking and smoking isnt a good role model for younger players
-this is just wishful thinking/delusion
-thank god youre not in charge of contracts
-atmosphere will be toxic with an overpaid player past his sell by date in the team
-and finally this proves you havent watched him in the last year cos if you had you'd know he wont improve our first 11 and he wont improve the squad enough to move us up from 7th.

Jesus your definitely a pint half empty type of guy!! We are all entitled to an opinion, you don't like mine, I don't like yours. End off. Only time will tell!

He's been a bit part player this season so nobody can know if he has got something left to offer or not. Drop your attitude as well

Koeman said this just under 3 months ago:

“I think he made a good choice to stay at Manchester United and in the Premier League because he has still two or three years in front of him to play on a high level.

“What will happen at the end of the season? I don’t know but in my opinion he is one of the players who can make Everton more stronger. It’s all about what the player likes, what Manchester United needs to do, and we are not involved in that project.

“But every player that we at Everton think can make the team stronger is welcome to Everton.”

It will be interesting to see if Koeman is prepared to use the £30m or so from a Barkley sale to pay for Rooney's wages for a couple of seasons or 3 and basically swap Barkley for Rooney in an attempt to get into the Champions League.

I was gonna post a poll thread wondering what Evertonians would prefer, Barkley or Rooney but there are enough Barkley threads already!

There should be a Rooney poll thread. Happy with potential signing or not should be the question

Are you saying Rooney wouldnt be the best player in our squad?
He wouldn't be. Man U will finish the season one place and a handful of points ahead of us and he can't get near their first choice 11, you have a very low opinion of our current squad and that, in my view, isn't based on any objective facts.

You have a very low opinion of our squad if you think a washed up Rooney is better than the lot of them.

3 goals in 5 Premier League Games at the start of the season. Next 9 appearances in which he played over 27 minutes in a match (only 3 games he played more than 27 minutes) he also scored 3 goals. Hamstring, ankle and knee injuries meant he managed 45 minutes only twice in the league between boxing day and mid-april.

Since April 23rd he has played 5 times in the league, managing 90 minutes 4/5 times and has scored 3 goals.

He has also scored 4 goals in 8 combined appearances in the Europa League and FA Cup this season.

Washed up ? I don't think so. He is 31.

He's 31 but played a lot of games every season (except this one) since he was 16. Not the same as a lad who breaks in to first team footie at 20 or older. I'm not saying he's terrible but a lot of lids are acting like he's the player he was 5 years ago. He's not. He's also not better than every other player in our squad which was the point I was replying to. That is an absurd proposition and if you run the same type of statistical analysis you did for Rooney on Rom then you will find Rom comes out on top, is 8 years younger and would probably cost less in wages (if we can convince him to sign).

He wouldn't be a replacement for Lukaku though. He'd play behind him like Barkley does now.

"With 53 goals in 118 international caps, Rooney is England's all-time record goalscorer"

Miroslav Klose is Germany's all time record goal scorer with 71 goals in 137 appearances, should we sign him too?
