Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

We need more Rooneys and less Valencias.

There's a chance that him coming back could re-ignite his hunger for the game, and we just need one top season from him to give us a trophy or top 4.

It's a no brainer in my view.
spot on. people need to forget about their pride. 2 years of a better than average Rooney is more than we get from an on song Mirallas etc. He won't cost the earth. He wants to be here.
He's never been a naturally fit lad. The more he plays the fitter he gets. Him behind a number 9 or even as the number 9 would be a great stop gap for a year or two.

You can't write a player of based on whether 'his legs have gone'

Ibrahimovic didn't do too bad this season. His 'legs have gone', infact did he ever have that to his game?!

Gareth Barry has never had legs but been a very accomplished premier league player at a high level well into his 30's.

If Rooney was played as a striker, he still has a lot to offer. Anywhere else on the pitch, then perhaps 'the legs have gone' debate might have an argument.

Having said that, he's 31, would be fresher next season having been a bit part player this season, and undoubtedly will have a point to prove. That in itself I think would raise his game & sharpness.

the type of player Wayne is his mobility is vital. He does not have the technical ability to become Paul Scholes and he can't play as a target man striker like Ibra or like someone like Mark Hughes. I have watched him pretty closely over the last 3 years and his first touch has also deserted him. This will be similar to what happened to Michael Owen at the end of his career when he could not get a sniff at Stoke.

Owen's game only relied on his pace, though.

Not saying Rooney is all that like, but he's a very different player.

Trouble is he has not got a season in him. He will always have a hunger for the game however he is well past it
He has no other premier clubs after him as he is washed up and past it
This is down to Kenwright and nostalgia, he cant get into the United side so why should he get into ours

I think its massively embarrassing being linked to him we should be focusing on bringing in talent not has beens, im not suprised Barklay and Lukaku want out when the best we can do is Rooney speaks volumes about our ambition

He's won everything at United and so I think it's fair to say he's lost his motivation to push boundaries there. Coming back and working under Koeman could bring that fire back to his game.

Every club needs that mix of youth and experience, and he's a winner. Obviously people disagree with him coming back (like yourself) and that's fair enough, but for me he's perfect as long as we bring in some quality players who are at their prime too.

I think the Stubbs little clip on sky sports yesterday was quite telling. They are close friends. Just looked like Stubbs was all but saying he is signing

The idea of Rooney coming back shouldn't ordinarily be that concerning. But I'm concerned for two reasons.

One is that the club will have no qualms about actually replacing Rom with Rooney. They will spin it as us somehow being better off.

And two, BK will be insufferable for days if he pulls this one off. He'll be all over the media for days, crying like a baby, gloating, just generally making ridiculous comments about how Rooney will win us the lot. And we will look so small time and be ridiculed.

Rooney deal only makes sense if it's on a free, at sensible wages and not our top earner, and as part of a number of quality additions rather than a sell to buy someone on a free, standard, everton type signing.

Rooney isn't an out and out striker, so we won't replace £80m Lukaku with a 31 year old Rooney. If we did then yeah, I'd be fuming. Until that happens there's no point assuming that it will though, as in my mind he'll be one of a few great signings.

I'm not bothered about BK, he's waffled for years and will do the same whoever we sign.

I agree the financials have to make sense though, hopefully the club make that happen.
