Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

You can't write a player of based on whether 'his legs have gone'

Ibrahimovic didn't do too bad this season. His 'legs have gone', infact did he ever have that to his game?!

Gareth Barry has never had legs but been a very accomplished premier league player at a high level well into his 30's.

If Rooney was played as a striker, he still has a lot to offer. Anywhere else on the pitch, then perhaps 'the legs have gone' debate might have an argument.

Having said that, he's 31, would be fresher next season having been a bit part player this season, and undoubtedly will have a point to prove. That in itself I think would raise his game & sharpness.
Can't compare him to Ibra, zlatan is a unreal physical specimen and by all accounts one of the hardest working footballers in the game. Plus he is and was on a different level to Rooney

Barry aswell has always been a much fitter player than Rooney and has never relied on the legwork in his game

I'm sorry but I disagree. Both Zlatan & Rooney are two of the all time greats.

Zlatan has NEVER had pace or in fact needed that element to be a world beater. Alan Shearer is another example of that.

On Barry - that's exactly my point. He's NEVER had legs, but still been a top player.

Rooney may of lost that explosiveness, but has he ever been a sprinter? No he hasn't

If your legs are gone they gone. It does not matter how much experience he has. He is done at premier league level. What remains is an extremely limited footballer who slows play down. The only thing he still has in his locker is a cross field pass.

I don't want him. If we are to sign him I could accept it if on a free transfer for modest wages (no more than 100k)on no more on a 2 year deal. But the reality is he would likely be included in an exchange with Rom that sees us effectively pay a fee and on a 3 or 4 year deal on 200k. That would reflect very badly on our club to see one of the best strikers in Europe with his best years ahead of him exchanged for a cart horse.

The part swap deal will never happen
Rooney will make his own mind up and I think united will accept his wishes.
As rich as they are getting a 350k a week player who is not in the first choice 14/15 ioff your books is good business.
That will pay 2/3 players wages

Rooney is not good enough for us anymore. Unless we all agree that finishing 7th is our aim for next season. If we want to try and close the gap between ourselves and those above we need to swerve

Of course hes good enough for us, baffling comment, hes not the player he was for sure, but hes still vastly more talented than any player within our entire squad.

Zlatan is an all time great, Rooney an English great. Zlatan has been a better and a lot more consistent player than Wayne.

Zlatan has never relied on pace but there's a lot more to his game to make up for that than what Rooney has

Barry reads the game like not many can but even he is done for if someone gets wrong side.

Rooney may never of been a sprinter but he was exactly no slouch, but watch him the past 2 seasons and he's ridiculously slow

Shearer had loads of pace before a couple of horrific injuries.
The rest of your comment is spot on.

In a lot of posters opinions he is his good enough , in a decent amount of posters he's not ( see poll ) but the salient fact here is both Koeman and Walsh have PUBLICLY stated he is good enough.
Wether that's as a guaranteed starter or as a player for certain games or as an impact sub we won't know for sure.
What he can offer though is experience , a winning mentality and guidance to the younger players.
Also a high profile name for other targets to notice has signed for us.

I don't think it can be underestimated the impact coming back to Everton may have on his desire to compete. He's been dining out on his past success at United for the past two years imo, don't think he's that arsed.

Gazza and Ginola were more talented than anyone in our squad when we signed them. They still offered us nothing because they weren't able to transfer that talent into performance due to the fact that their bodies couldn't match their talent. If we start next season with Rooney in our first eleven we are going nowhere
