The difference is Rooney is a real footballer who has handled fan pressure from United and England in the biggest games his entire career. He's not one of the schoolboys in the current squad whose game disintegrate as soon as they year one moan of disgruntlement from the lower Gwladys.
At the time he was sold the club was very close to being bankrupt, so it was either he's sold or he doesn't have a club to play for, if you read Leon Osmans autobiography, it goes more indepth about it.Had a massive argument about it with the only other blue in work yesterday.
He's in his 50's and had a season ticket 1975. But he just couldn't get his head round why Me as a 24 year old lad wouldn't want him back. So I gave him my reasons:
He binned us of at the time we needed him the most.
If he wasn't a blue not one person would even consider signing him.
He would still want big wages, id much rather we gave Gylfi £130k a week than a has been Rooney.
Can't think of anything worse.if you read Leon Osmans autobiography, it goes more indepth about it.
It seems no one on here is considering how intimidating it would be for Wayne. The pressure would be unbearable. He sees the reception our current homegrown no 10 gets, who by many is still looked at as 'the future'. Could you imagine Goodison Park if he failed to produce what was expected, on his return visit, for a fat pay cheque? I'm not one to be angry at a player, more disappointed in the result, but my word, if Rooney signed for 150,000 a week, and just didn't show up, or didn't have the legs, I would be going off my rocker. He not only used the club as a platform years ago, but also robs us of a salary when he knows he is on the decline, I'd say he would go down as one of Goodison's most hated.
If your legs are gone they gone. It does not matter how much experience he has. He is done at premier league level. What remains is an extremely limited footballer who slows play down. The only thing he still has in his locker is a cross field pass.
I don't want him. If we are to sign him I could accept it if on a free transfer for modest wages (no more than 100k)on no more on a 2 year deal. But the reality is he would likely be included in an exchange with Rom that sees us effectively pay a fee and on a 3 or 4 year deal on 200k. That would reflect very badly on our club to see one of the best strikers in Europe with his best years ahead of him exchanged for a cart horse.
I don't think the pressure will be an issue. The guy has played in front of 70k clueless fans for years. 5 league titles and god knows how many other cup finals, I think he can probably handle it like.
