The difference is Rooney is a real footballer who has handled fan pressure from United and England in the biggest games his entire career. He's not one of the schoolboys in the current squad whose game disintegrate as soon as they year one moan of disgruntlement from the lower Gwladys.

If your legs are gone they gone. It does not matter how much experience he has. He is done at premier league level. What remains is an extremely limited footballer who slows play down. The only thing he still has in his locker is a cross field pass.

I don't want him. If we are to sign him I could accept it if on a free transfer for modest wages (no more than 100k)on no more on a 2 year deal. But the reality is he would likely be included in an exchange with Rom that sees us effectively pay a fee and on a 3 or 4 year deal on 200k. That would reflect very badly on our club to see one of the best strikers in Europe with his best years ahead of him exchanged for a cart horse.

Had a massive argument about it with the only other blue in work yesterday.
He's in his 50's and had a season ticket 1975. But he just couldn't get his head round why Me as a 24 year old lad wouldn't want him back. So I gave him my reasons:

He binned us of at the time we needed him the most.

If he wasn't a blue not one person would even consider signing him.

He would still want big wages, id much rather we gave Gylfi £130k a week than a has been Rooney.

At the time he was sold the club was very close to being bankrupt, so it was either he's sold or he doesn't have a club to play for, if you read Leon Osmans autobiography, it goes more indepth about it.

The reasons why he left us are often debated. Its gone, its in the past. Some people can't forgive or forget, some can. Either which way its not material anymore in my eyes. The question is, is he a worthwhile signing (if a deal can be done)? I've said it before, but I'm not bothered either way. I'm truly not. No fanfare from me if he comes back. And no stick given out either. He may still be able to do a job for us. In my opinion its a couple of years too late. But we'll see.

It seems no one on here is considering how intimidating it would be for Wayne. The pressure would be unbearable. He sees the reception our current homegrown no 10 gets, who by many is still looked at as 'the future'. Could you imagine Goodison Park if he failed to produce what was expected, on his return visit, for a fat pay cheque? I'm not one to be angry at a player, more disappointed in the result, but my word, if Rooney signed for 150,000 a week, and just didn't show up, or didn't have the legs, I would be going off my rocker. He not only used the club as a platform years ago, but also robs us of a salary when he knows he is on the decline, I'd say he would go down as one of Goodison's most hated.

I don't think the pressure will be an issue. The guy has played in front of 70k clueless fans for years. 5 league titles and god knows how many other cup finals, I think he can probably handle it like.

You can't write a player of based on whether 'his legs have gone'

Ibrahimovic didn't do too bad this season. His 'legs have gone', infact did he ever have that to his game?!

Gareth Barry has never had legs but been a very accomplished premier league player at a high level well into his 30's.

If Rooney was played as a striker, he still has a lot to offer. Anywhere else on the pitch, then perhaps 'the legs have gone' debate might have an argument.

Having said that, he's 31, would be fresher next season having been a bit part player this season, and undoubtedly will have a point to prove. That in itself I think would raise his game & sharpness.

I would also imagine a few moans and groans will be easier to take than 35,000 Everton fans singing hes just a fat little nobhead.

We actually sold him at the time we needed to the most
