What managers has he played for? Moyes, SAF, LVG, Jose, Sven, Southgate (?), that Italian nutter, er, Peter Taylor (?), Mclaren. Prob missed some off. edit. Woy.

Anyrate, what price his final one being Sam?

I hope not mate as that means he'll only be here until end of the season ;)

In all seriousness though, depending how we do this season and in the FA Cup i could see him maybe leaving in the summer. Win the FA Cup and go out on a high.

Also, whilst the flower pot men were looking underneath the couch for a manager I had a vision of Rooney being player/manager. Not sure if hes got any coaching badges yet but I remember Sir Alex Ferguson saying his thirst for knowledge about football was second to none.

Anyway that's my crap random shout for the day, I'm sure more will come to me throughout the evening.

imagine the scenes if sam goes back to anfield in the cup in january to finish what he started... rooney with 3 dodgy pens... magic of the cup

Looks a whole new man in his deeper playmaking role. Some of the defence-splitting passes he's launched from that position have been immaculate (see: pass to DCL just before the penno, the entire match against West Ham as well). It's clear that the vision and technical ability are still there, it's just that his age has slowed his decision making and mobility significantly. Playing deep in midfield has helped accomodate his strengths by giving him that extra half a second to pick a pass that he doesn't get when right up there with opposition defenders. He drops so deep from attacking positions anyway that it's more intuitive to just start him from there.

I was completely prepared to write him off before the West Ham game, having become well fed up with his lack of energy and pace when deployed further up in the attack or out wide. Pleased to say that I was wrong, he definitely has a big role to play.

The thing that impresses me most, however, has been his leadership since he's started playing deep. Not only is he pinging some great balls forward, he looks like a real captain. No disrespect to Jagielka or even to Baines, I love them with all of my heart, but they are incredibly passive presences on the pitch and don't seem to inspire confidence the way that Rooney can. Wayne is confrontational with officials, he's loud, he rallies the side behind him and his playing career means he commands a huge amount of respect from his teammates. I can only imagine that being led into battle by one of England's greatest ever players is far more of a motivating factor for players like Davies, Calvert-Lewin, and Kenny than playing with Jagielka as captain is. Again, no disrespect to him or Baines, but they lack that "fighter" quality that we need from an Everton captain. I've heard a lot over the years about how we're simply "too nice", and these two are the epitome of that diagnosis. I'd argue that sentiment aside and on merit alone, Rooney and Seamus are clearly the players that should be sharing the armband, rather than the current two.

Barely mentioned in the media that from a deep position for a team playing woefully and he’s been rotated in and out he’s scored more than several of the top 6 darlings such as Sanchez Ozil Alli Eriksen Hazard Pedro etc.

If this was Gerrard doing for Liverpool exactly what Rooney’s done for us there’s be a clamour in the rags for him to come back for England and be up for player of the year.

Depending how the players est of the season goes for him I could imagine Southgate giving him a call at some point. England’s weakness is CM.

He needs to play in front of Gana, not alongside Gana with somebody between them and the striker. He will be in the best position to feed the striker when nobody plays between them.

He also has a goal scoring job to do, playing him deep will dry up his goals. In the game of scoring more goal than the opponent, why play the topscorer so deep in own half?

Real pace out wide on both flanks and someone more mobile than Davies next to him would see Rooney with loads more space in midfield to score and create goals.

Because he can score from there that's why :)
